Recycling RANT....

Bear with me on this one ppl.....

1. Do you recycle?
2. Do you have a mixed recycling bin or do you have to separate your paper/cardboard/glass/plastic/metal etc into different bins/bags?

Like i said bear with me, im just asking cos even after only working for just over a week in a large recycling centre, my eyes have been opened.

I do recycle.... mostly.
We have 8 bins...... its a fucking joke here!
Bins emptied once every 3 weeks and you pay extra ontop of council tax for garden waste - and you cant have any soil ( not even in roots ) in this bin or they wont take it!

2. 2 bins - brown for recycling (all goes in one) and green for black bags. They take garden waste separately but I compost everything and all my soil tops up my flower beds and I got no grass or bushes to cut so that's pretty much it.

Yip I do my bit .. all food goes into green bags into food bin , paper, cardboard, glass, plastic all recycled into their own containers, garden waste all collected every week

So the reason i ask is the plant i work in deals with mixed recycling....
This wont apply to you Nanook cos u sort before they pick up, I do know what its like north of the border cos my fam still live in the Elgin area...my mums garden looks like a recycling centre, bins and boxes of varying colours....

Do you ever put beer cans back in the cardboard box they came in?
Or put plastic/metal food trays back into the box they came in?
Or put newspapers into the paper bags you get from high street shops (the ones with string handles)?
I could go on but i ask because i used to do things like this without thinking...
After working on the newspaper/pamphlet line last night i now know how hard ppl actually have to work to sort it all out...even after its been through a really modern automatic sorting plant....
To put it into perspective, we process about 16 tons an hour for 10 hours on night shift and only 11ppl are sorting on the manual line...
Anyway...sorry for the rant im tired (not slept yet) and a bit pissed...

I just rinse everything under the tap and then chuck it in the bin. There's only 2 of us and we both eat pretty healthy (mostly fresh veg) so there's not a lot so there's no need for stacking anything inside anything else.
Funny how different councils so close to each other do things differently. Cardiff was 3 bins, Newport was a shit load of bins and Caerphilly is 2 bins.
