Carrots were originally purple. They were genetically altered to be orange.
Orange colour was named after the fruit.
Oranges are naturally green. It depends where they are grown depends on then being either green or orange.

They came in a variety of colours; white (said to be the original colour) bright yellow and deep purple. I've grown all 3 in the past.
It was the Dutch that pissed around with the bright yellow ones to create the orange type that you get today.
