HPS Bulbs - Horizontal or Verical better for Cannabis Growing

Post by Bulls »

Good afternoon GrowRoom420!

Let's talk HPS Bulbs! As we know most of the people use standard reflectors which use the bulb horizontally. Other use parabolic shades which require the bulb to be positioned vertically. Which one do you prefer and why? A lot have been said about the vertical positioning of the bulb and how much efficient it is. I am personally using parabolic shade and always get great results. Plus I find heat distribution to be way better when the bulb is vertical.

i cant say much to compair othe then with my parabolic im loosing at least 4 inches of tent hight because of how the socket is mounted vertical where ya can lift a normal reflector higher , it does give a very good spread of light tho
We can get swept away by our thoughts,,or learn to step back and see them with clarity.
Easy to forget its a choice

My fear with parabolics is hot air being trapped under the shade. I think light coverage would be better though.

I've been tempted to go vertical for a long time. Maybe this next grow I shall do so. Very nice info Bulls.

There are vents at the top which allow hot air to be sucked by extraction fan.

I never knew that. I think cost wise parabolic would be more efficient.

A lot of blokes, myself included modify them for this reason mate. Ive got 4 x 3inch hole drilled in the plate so and my extraction sits above it, my canopy fans will be pushing that heat straight ito the waiting extraction as a bonus so no hot air is trapped at all. Another trick ive seen is to cut em down a couple of inches so there is less area to trap heat. Not sure how cutting them down would effect spread though. My parabolic runs much cooler than a cool hood.

for those who want a parabolic but prefer horizontal blbs you can get parabolics with both vert and horizontal. The parabolic i borrowed of my friend for my last grow had both mounting options.
