Re: Hi. From the Pacific ocean.
Since 2000. On and off. Last 4 years full on. Obviously I grow a few breeders. For this site though I'm keeping it to 8 plants. Some mystery pollen may be dusted by fairies on a couple though.
I also do GA3, CS and when I can get it/make it STS. STS is my preference. GA3 can be unpredictable in its effects and CS takes so Damn long, especially if your chosen female resists hard. STS needs good storage and it's not the cheapest to make or obtain reagents. each has its advantages and disadvantages. I prefer regular breeding and back crossing. Taking clones and using them for the next generation stud male to pollinate.

Re: Hi. From the Pacific ocean.
Autos are pains. A photo auto regular cross take 5 generations to stabilize the auto feature. That's selecting plants with auto characteristics from filal 2 onwards. F1 don't usuAlly auto (there may be a freak or two but that's it). So any male to female will be good to get F2.
As each generation is in lined the recessive auto flowering trait becomes more dominant. Autos can resist cold and heat well but are finicky about a whole bunch of other things.
So that's a basic road map to creating an auto photo hybrid. Remember potency is derived from the male side. Females tend to have other characteristics they add, like coloration, bud formation and overall growth, although the male also contributes in this regard. That is why it is best to stable (segregate) males and allow them to develop choosing the best plant from 3-4 chosen examples.

Re: Hi. From the Pacific ocean.
Also breeding with a small sample of seed plants regardless of methodology is often undesirable. Large samples should be used. Culling the weak plants. Culling undesired pheno types. Unless you can be growing silly numbers cull. You will end up with say 3-4 males and a corresponding number of females. These are your breeding candidates.
As autos are so rapid. The cull will be completed by the 6-8 th week of the auto specimens life. Cultivar not strain until properly in lined. IMO only. :-)

Re: Hi. From the Pacific ocean.
You can speed up the process by back crossing the patent auto strain. This will skip a generation so auto dominance will be complete by F4 or the fourth generation. However you may lose desired photo period characteristics. Back crossing well also increases potency. Selection is utterly crucial though. Back crossing can be done via seed patent, clone patent or male patent. To use a male pollen must be collected, dried and stored correctly.

Re: Hi. From the Pacific ocean.
That was a very good read Shitsngiggles. That sort of info would be really helpful to guys thst don't know much about breeding. You could put that info In a topic of its own in the breeding section, I'm sure many over the years will learn from it and enjoy reading.
Breeding in UK is very difficult given the numbers needed to do so properly and the laws being so backward here.
Thank you for sharing.

Yup although it's a contentious issue out here if we're Australian or Polynesian, or British bahaha! I've a question, how do you post pics?Keeno wrote: βSun Oct 07, 2018 1:58 amWelcome to GR420

More than welcome mate, make yourself at home. I look forward to seeing your strain in action. If you need any help finding your way around just ask.
