quitting weed use after 40 yrs,help!!!!!!!!!

hi all well due to recent health issue i found myself unable to smoke weed in spliffs but i find having tried vapes of several types that they make me cough worse than baccy or pure weed do,

i have been a habitual weed user since early teens and am 60 years old now but suffer from asthma and copd/emphysema and recently contracted a hospital aquired viral disease which made it simply impossible for me to smoke even my pipe which has been my go too method for several decades which has always worked for me when the copd meds fail the weed enables me to breath by clearing my airways and allowing the yuck from the lungs to exit,even my gp told me if cannabis helps to keep using it which was fine for years but since this recent illness i find myself suffering not only the copd breathing problems but insomnia and constant nightmares when i do sleep,this is after many years not dreaming at all that i ever remember im told this is a common thing in long term cannabis users but the gp has no viable method to help deal with this issue.

and yes before anyone asks i have tried edibles/cannabis oil which is fine if you just want to get stoned but this does little to nothing for the breathing issue,also found i have a sever adverse reaction to steroids so when i have a chest infection which is often several times a year and am prescribed both antibiotics and steroids i suffer from depression and short temper everything makes me anxious and i cannot abide idiots but also cannot help saying so rather rudely! this makes me refuse to take the steroids except as a very last resort.

the weed has honestly been the only medicine that works for me consistently despite all the nhs meds of many kinds of inhalers and pills but having got to the being taken into hospital now several times and getting this virus so bad im unable to even smoke a tiny pipe the combo of stopping weed and the huge doses of meds have made the insomnia unbearable and the nightmares so bad im scared to go to sleep! so my question is has anyone else dealt with similar situation and if so how? i feel its a waste of time and also risky as fuck trying to get help from the nhs and wondered if you guys had any ideas? sorry for the long and boring post. peace all

Hi i think its a great point as many others will be or will have to face decisions due to health.

Iam also someone like you, i have got to have a mitral valve replacement, if i have a mechanicle valve i cant smoke
whereas if i have basically a pigs valve although not recommeneded but i could smoke, but it means in 10 years it will need to be replaced, whereas mechanicle valve is for life..

I do not not not want to stop smoking, i smoke spilffs all day not to get stoned tho. I prefer spliffs to actual cigarettes..
So i too have to face a huge decision???????

Well @duke all i can help with is my situ, and im going do everything i can to keep smoking, i dont think id get thru more than a fews without it before cracking up
and prolly having depression again (last time i had it 22 years ago - i started smoking and now no depression...

Either way hope you have an amazingly high and smokey christmas..

hi bud i def do not want to stop using/growing weed as this is my physical/mental medicine for sure id go crazier even stopping and for no1 i cannot stand these fucking crazy mental torture dreams,why couldnt they be nice dreams if ive got to dream at all nice would def be better! i also have suffered deep sadness of the soul recently having lost my best human friend and my best canine friend all within weeks of each other which i dont mind admitting damn near pushed me over the edge,i have managed to smoke my pipe just tiny bits of the best bud and did try a tiny one skinner using mullien herb instead of baccy but it still made me cough which hurts like crazy as i have pulled stomach muscles due to this horrid cough and flu and everytime it stops hurting i cough and it all stats over again! i reckon the day i quit smoking weed will be the day they light the fire under me! and have a good christmas and make the most of it,peace

hi gho i have plenty of oil and will be making some cookies for christmas but i have to drive to fetch my daughter and grandsons so its a bit risky till im done driving a while,looking forward to getting home and settled for a few days,i hate our stupid driving laws where weed is concerned,cheers and have a good one,peace

Damn bro hope you feel better soon, can't really help with quitting as I suffer from the same problems I guess if I couldn't smoke much I would just try very small dabs, this probably wouldn't make me cough or just use edibles instead. Also the volcano can make very smooth vapes but I've not been using that lately, I'm more into my dabs cheers

hi jimmi and all well i seem to be getting on with this vape so far its only a midpriced handheld but has temp control and set at minimum it works ok and i do not cough badly but its still not as effective as my pipe idk if the combustion bit has a different result by the extra but short term heat the pipe works fast like a minute or 2 and i can breath again without obstruction,the vape half works it does sort of clear the airways but seems not to shift the yuck in the lungs out,if i cough it feels like being punched in the ribs and tummy due to the muscles being weakened by the constant cough while i was real bad with copd asthma and a flu bug all at the same time!no covid though as hospital tested me for that as well,cannabis is better than there poxy jabs.
i still have the grandkids here atm and tina bought the youngest boy a kareoke toy and jesus it makes your fucking ears bleed and reminds me of when my girls was small and wanted a kareoke we ended up driving all round sussex towns to diffent argos stores and each one sent us elsewhere cost me a fortune in fuel and a few weeks of no sleep due to the horrid noise from the girls being spice girls 24/7!
taking them home tomorrow and should get a diary update done then,been sleeping a bit better but still having mad dreams but not so scary ones which is cool,im quite used to weird! bless my tina she is still fighting flu and the dog bite injuries and has to go see a hand therapy consultant as she has lost a lot of the movement in her hand and the nurse cannot remove the last stitch from her heel which is driving her mad,im no surgeon but said id have a go but a slightly shaky one working handed surgeon is not good enough for her!
