Re: un buffered coco
Can you tell us a bit more about your background water. Adding Calmag to coco feed is a overused and often problem causing issue. It can be added to every feed or there is no need. If you are doing it based off purely the fact you wanted to buffer it and are 3 weeks in, then your coco has gotten you this far without it.finlo420 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 10:53 amfirst time using coco, I got in blocks unaware you had to buffer before use I'm now 3 weeks in should i start over and cut my loses and use a better pre buffered coco like canna pro plus? or i have calmag arriving today can I just up the dosage of that? biobizz recommends 0.8ML-1L for weeks 1-6
What is your background ec?
What are you feeding your plants atm and how much?
Dont follow feed charts, they are often heavy on the amounts.
In the future I'd say buy canna coco pro, takes any guess work out as its ready to use out of the bag.

To buffer the coco up you have break it up into a grow pot. Fill the a bucket with water and 3ml per litre calmag at ph 5.8. Pop the the pot of coco in the bucket of calmag and soak overnight, ideally you wanna repeat that process in a fresh lot of calmag & water day after.
Un-buffered coco will still work and grow you nice plants but they will grow slower and their always a possibility of running in to calcium deficiencies usually around 2 to 3 weeks into bloom. If do buffer the coco and re-pot which is what I'd do then stuff you have transplanted from will still be fine to re-buffer with calmag. I always buffer my old coco to reuse again.

Re: un buffered coco
just using tap water phed to 5.8 with biobizz using there feed chart i slightly weaken to what they recommend, feed 1l per plant every 3-4 days or sooner if drying out i have 5 gallon fabric pots with 20 percent perlite. my concern is more the lack of growth for the age, and also the obvious signs of calcium deficiency in the plants and after looking in to growing with coco more i shortly found out about buffering cheap coco as calcium deficiency's are a common cause of not doing so.Keeno wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 11:40 amCan you tell us a bit more about your background water. Re: un buffered coco
I use the unbuffered dehydrated blocks. After a little tinkering, I've found that hydrating with 0.7g/L of Calcium Nitrate and 0.4g/L of Magnesium sulphate works the best. I've also started adding a little Acti-Vera to improve dispersion and to add some beneficials.
If you're using CalMag then just use the manufacturers recommendations.
I will add that the blocks I use are completely free of salts. I regularly check using a slurry test and deionised water and the results always comes back 0.0EC. Other blocks I've tested have been dirty. If thata the case, you should hydrate with plain water then soak the hydrated coir in a strong CalMag solution for 8-10 hours before using.
