Water pump for autopot

Post by Herbalist »

What's happening growmies.
Hope everyone had a nice 420.

I need a new water pump for my autopot res. The one i have burned out already so i was wondering what pumps you fellow autopoters use. I live in a hard water area and think this contributed to the rapid demise of the one i was using but was probably more because it was running in an empty res. Oops.
Anyone got one with an automatic shutoff if it doesn't detect water?

Got just an air stone running in the res at the mo.
Cheers y'all

Hey @Herbalist I don’t use a pump in my auto pots. Mine are simply gravity fed. What do you use the pump for? Just to circulate nutrient water so it doesn’t go stale? I would think an air Stone would be fine for that.

I'm going through a bit of an, 'all the gear, no idea' situation at the moment. This is my first time using them so i just got everything that was recommended to me. Aparrently it helps keep nute soloution from separating / sublimating and helps to stable the ph.

I tried a few days without it before but within 24hrs my res ph went from 6 to 8.3. With the pump and air stone it still climbs but definetly slower.

:idn: still new to this shizzle lol

Cheers

I used a sicce nano circulator in my res. Does the job. Especially as right now I'm.feeding at 4ml/l. There's always some.salt at the bottom.regaedless

Basically in my eyes

If I have a res of water, I.e. not mixing my solution and feeding almost in 1hour of making then I want to ensure my solution remains fairly mixed or the salts will sink to the bottom.. that's just my 2p bro science class learning.

yea i am of the same school of thinking. the only visual clue i have is that with the pump in and working i get less crap build up at the bottom of the res. make of that as you will.

I was using a water pump in my res and it raised my water temps to dangerous levels so I replaced that with air stones and it seems to circulate the water.. granted this is my first grow so take with a grain of salt.. I’ll know more once I run through a few tanks with the air stones but I’m not seeing the hazy layer that happens if the water isn’t moving
