Springflies
Hey guys
Anyone had springflies?
I've got them, again silly me didn't raise my plant pots under th3 prop so found them swimming in a little run off.
I keep reading that they're pretty much safe..and eat decayed roots and that kind of stuff. I've cleaned them up last night but I did re-water so dome appeared back in the morning. This time I've raised the pots a little from the bottom of the prop. And will check later today. I'm going to flush them out with a fresh batch of nutrients tonight anyway.
Question is do I start again in case I'm setting myself up for failure?
Thanks all

Re: Springflies
Had them in my soil a couple of times. Never tried to eradicate them before though. I normally just leave them to do their thing. Haven't noticed any adverse effects. Couldn't tell you if that's the best option though.

Re: Springflies
Give your pots a few good drinks of neem/water mix done over 3 or 4 days. That should wipe them out. I also once read neem can have systemic properties used this way so it should give added protection for a while to rest of plant.

Re: Springflies
Thank you both!! Appreciate it. Little jumping feckers as soon as they don't have water haha.
Any recommendations on which neem oil and how to use?

Re: Springflies
Sorry what I meant to say is do I add it to my feed or do I run with water and neem first than feed. Tad confused.

Re: Springflies
I find Bt (bacillus thuringiensis) is the most effective at eradicating larvae around the rootzone. It's by far the safest option too

Re: Springflies
I would think any cold pressed neem should do jobby but if you buy one that`s sold for weed difference will be it should have instructions for a root drench on the bottle. I seem to remember last i used it this way it was around 4ml per litre but its that long since i used the stuff so not totally sure. It has systemic properties so it should protect plant for a while used this way. Add a few drops of washing up liquid per ltr as an emulsifier so it mixes in warm water right.
This stuff says 5 to 10ml, i mean if it was a small plant id air on side of caution with the lower dose or even 4ml a ltr and if plants are sound at that then 3 or 4 days later add more if you still seeing the bugs alive or repeat to finish them off. Its a good prep to use before planting out to get rid of bugs in your medium not that ive used it that way, maybe if i was a soil grower but decent coco "should" be bug free

I think it stinks vile man, let me know your thoughts on that.
