Bluelab ph pen, what do I need to know/look after it properly?

Post by GHO »

Hey all, as titled I've just bought a bluelab ph pen and have seen some stuff about it needing the probe keeping in a liquid? What's the story does the tip need to be kept wet? Also, what else am I likely to need to keep it in tiptop condition and calibrated etc.

Many thanks,

GHO

The BlueLabs pen has a place in the cap to put a few drops of storage solution (KCl, or Potassium Chloride) in when closed. This keeps the gel in the probe "recharged" as it can leech out during normal use. You also want to avoid using the pen in RO or distilled water as this is bad for the probe. Finally, the pen has a check mark on the digital display that lets you know when calibration is needed.

I have ph drops and strips that I can use to double check any readings that seems out of the norm. If I find any variation I will calibrate & move on.

Bottom line is that it is a sensitive piece of equipment and should be treated correctly to protect the investment.

Thanks lads, @Grumpy Toad will that all be in the box mate? Yeah they're not the cheapest but I guess everyone tends to use bluelab so worth the money.

No, you need to buy separate. Cost isn't bad though.
