Water only once a week?

Post by Tom1974 »

Hearing many flush their girls once a week with plain water, something to do with the salts/.nutes in the coco
Any truth or point in doing so or is this just another myth?
Cheers Tom

Perhaps this might make sense running a bottom feeding system like flood & drain or autopot as salts will buildup in the top layer of coco but otherwise Id say no. Top feeding coco at the right EC to 5-10% runoff & shouldn't ever need straight water.

Cheers dude, I top feed my coco 2 litres per day split
1 litre when I wake and 1 litre before lights off

I would say the tray has around 10% run off yes

I think the flushing every week (when you have no signs of lockout) is a bro science myth.

I run autopots (sub irrigation) too. I have never done a weekly flush if I have no issues with my grow.

Thanks for your input bro. First time in coco, first time in autopots. About to switch the system on.

Quick question @Cave Hill Cole did you use a circulator in your tank to keep the nutes mixed? Did you notice ph swings or anything like this? With NFT as it recirculates I had a lot..as autopots dont recirculate water..im hoping I dont..

@wutang You can do "either or" with the circulator. I personally don't use one for my reservoir & I have never had any noticeable issues I'm aware of. A friend of mine who runs autopots does use one, but he likes grow gadgets.

I always looked at it as another piece of kit & the pump requires electricity. So unless I really have a good need for it, i try to avoid extra kit.

A good stick to stir the nute tank everytime im in the grow seemed a lot cheaper and less fuss.
