Wardrobe build.

Replacing the tent with a wardrobe for extra stealth, am a busy boy with kids being on summer holiday so not much time to myself. Thought id post my progress and maybe get some ideas.

The grow space:
£50 on gumtree, bargain.

The main grow space measures: W77cm x D52cm x H137cm the smaller space on the right may be used as a early veg space but it might actually be used for clothes
As far as light proofing, im not 100% on how im gonna tackle it. I'll need to put a stud down the front anyway to have something for the doors to sit flush against. Im thinking of going down the paint route instead of lining with mylar as pretty much everything is going to be screwed into the wood.

Will post updates as i go but might be a little slow these next few weeks.

I'd probably look at putting the filter in the other side and making a hole for ducting, might give you a bit more height which can be useful

I made an Ikea "Growdrobe"

I had challenges with heat and height and general space...but I think some of that was due to the fact it was in the shed in a hot summer, with NFT running. Results were poor but that was due to me not understanding the plants needs...needless to say I learnt a lot, very quickly when they weren't happy.

In order to prevent lights. I used some black 3m tape from lidl...3.50 a roll I think. Attached it onto one side of the door with 50% of the sticky bit folded back onto itself..enough to create a lip so the other door rested nicely on top of it. For the bottom, I used adhesive rubber draft strips. For the extraction I drilled a 100cm whole on top..my fan and everything was inside.

I was thinking about that until the Mrs said she wants to use the smaller side for its intended purpose was also toying with the idea of having my fan and filter on top of the drobe but that doesnt help with being stealth much.
I'll be scrogging in this so height shouldnt be too much of an issue, fingers crossed.

Cheers Wu, good tip about the tape i might indeed use that. I was also toying with the idea of butchering the tent and stapling the door to the inside of the wardrobe but then im back to dealing with an annoyingly loud zip.

Good luck with your wardrobe build, you should do well in there, i used to be able to grow enough to keep myself going between harvests in a wardrobe.

A couple of tips, if you glue a strip of wood to the back of one of the doors it’ll help massively with light leaks on the front, the only way i could stop all the light leak though was with the strip of wood and also left some overhang on the mylar that covered over the join in the door, you could also use a mylar curtain behind the doors



Also that draught excluder stuff you get is good too, just shut one door and put the draught excluder right up to the door all the way round, repeat the same process for the other door.
Silicon every join in the wardrobe as well, they are a bugger to seal up fully but using those methods youll get it pretty good

Also if you use a hole saw and cut a hole in the side of the drobe near the bottom, you can then use a bit of foam or a car washing sponge wedged in the hole to make a nice air filter thats easy to clean.
Ideally route ducting either through a cavity and up to the loft if your lucky enough to have a good sized cavity, i was in my old house, not so lucky here, straight up out of the drobe through the ceiling and into the loft if you can, put the fan up there and it’ll be much more quiet and stealth

Not too much left to do... Gave i a few coats of white and cut some holes. This intake hole obviously floods light out but I'll be stuffing some sponge in there. (Cheers for the idea Vador)

Got some foam adhesive draft excluder around the edges to hold in the light.

Using some magnetic cupboard catches to hold the door shut.
There is a tiny light leak on the bottom right of the door but ill move the draft excluder a little, that'll fix it.
Just need to tape everything up and get myself a new circulation fan. Want something super quiet if anyone has a suggestion...
