Tips for sprouting older seeds

Post by 2-Scoops »

So what's your tips for getting old seeds to sprout guys, I've tried h202 and a few other things like soaking them seaweed juice etc both ways very limited success, i really wanna sprout at least one of a certain strain i have, i did have ten seeds but down to six. I`m thinking of scuffing the seeds in some sand paper before a soak in seaweed juice, but more ideas welcome guys. Cheers . :nice:

I just popped a bunch of old seeds with really poor germ rates. I was basically only getting 1 in 6 seeds to pop....its heart breaking when it happens.

There's a few different methods I have heard of but haven't tried. One is using a dilution of black strap molasses in the pre soak.

The other one, which I have heard from some old timer heads growing since the 70s...and thats to pre soak the seeds in pinto bean juice. So you soak pinto beans over night, then use the bean infused liquid to soak the seeds. I think it the proteins and aminos in the bean juice that promote the growth, to give the seeds a boost of energy.

probably old wives tale

Soaking your seeds in tea can really help with germination success. Allowing your seeds to sit in a weak, milk & sugar free tea helps soften the seed casing. It's known as Chemical Scarification (pre soaking). Simply make a cup of tea for yourself & then use the teabag again to make a second cup using only water.
