Jizz

Post by Rawreefer »

Okay then thought i would have my first attempt at breeding and trying to change the Supa Nova that i love smoking but hate growing into a more stockier plant if that sounds right. Like some males suffer with premature ejaculation i to have got my timing all wrong and think my boy has suffered the afore mentioned problem cos my girls aint ready well i don't think so. Attached a pic of the jizz fest, my question is what is the best way forward now and can the jizz be stored and for how long , Ooooh and what's the best time to impregnate the girls..??

Making plans with a stoner is like being with a prostitute. They tell you they’re coming, but you know it’s a lie.

So take my following statements with a grain of salt as they're based on only one experience sorta Bro science I suppose. You say your ladies aren't ready I think if you have stigmas (hairs from the calyx) she's ready of super close. So one option is stick one of the ladies in the male space and wait depending on situation. But if not ready what I did was gently tap the male and collect pollen on a piece of paper or something to catch it when it falls. I put it into a mason jar and taped a silica packet to the underside of the lid to avoid humidity from ruining it, and stored it in the freezer. 3 months later I just kinda sprinkled it on a female I thought was ready and got seeds. How long it can be stored IDK, I might not take the earliest pollen to be sure it was "mature" pollen. Just my thinking at the time. Welcome to pollen chucking, now some things to be aware of that "jizz" is all over your gear now and is hard to get completely cleaned away, you'll literally need to disassemble the tent, fans, ducting, every single bit and completely clean or you will get random seeds in every grow with any of that gear. Also the seeds you produce once harvested you'll have to break all that bud, down rub the seeds a bit to remove any plant material, and "cure" them if you want decent germ rates. All credit to MR.Toad best way to "cure" them get a reusable K cup fill it with desiccate powder you can get from a flower shop. Then put that into a mason jar and fill your seeds around that. It dries the seeds but stops the drying agent from directly touching the seeds. If you've never made seeds lol be prepared just a little pollen makes a fricken shit ton of seeds.

Males will start dumping pollen as soon as they start showing nuts.

I hit plants early in flower so I can get a few dozen or so beans off them to keep the genetics in my fridge. The beans are always around the base of the buds and the stems then, easy to find and barely a random seed out of place.

If I want more beans, I just leave the males in there for the 1st 4 weeks of flower. Getting the beans out of fully seeded buds is always fun... :bang head:

A quick spritz around with a water sprayer in the tent will get rid of any pollen ready for the next grow. It doesn't stay viable for very long.
Storing it is touch and go, moisture is a pollen killer, so keep it dry.

I also cut the nuts off and put them in an envelope on a sunny windowsill to dry out a bit. Give it a good shake after a week or so and there should be loads of yellow dust in the envelope ready for your cotton bud to dust a branch or two if you want to do it that way.

Lots of ways to get the job done though. All depends how many seeds you want? A few thousand or a few?

You can pop them on your morning cereal too. :hungry:

We are gonna have to agree to disagree on that point. I found that pollen stuck to the fans had some still viable pollen that gave me a few seeds in the next grow.

Maybe something chucked a nanner on the next grow?

Some nice looking dangleys on him mate !! Very bulbous
. Be nice if that big ball energy is passed to the female bracts.. love them flowers ! I generally put my males in from 2 weeks after the girls have gone in . Il leave them up to week 5 and then remove..
.
If you only looking at short term.. like a week or two.. i dry my pollen and store in little centrifuge containers in the dark cool corner of my kitchen larder.. il then wait for the fems to be ready and hit em with it..
.
If kept in optimal conditions it can stay viable for a good few weeks like that..
.

All the best with the adventures

If you want to store some I've used contact lens cases or some clip top vials from ebay. Then I threw a few silica gel beads in with the pollen and seal it all up. Stored in the fridge it was viable 6 months later. Not sure how long it would be viable for but that seemed to work for my purposes.

"The optimal time to extract pollen seems to be during the mid-flowering stage. At that point, it retained “viability the longest with 22 percent of pollen grains successfully germinating after 21 days” of storage in a low-temperature environment."

https://www.marijuanamoment.net/scienti ... nvironment.

I'll say it again... Pollen does not stay viable for long.
