Dreaded Fungus Gnats

Post by The Irishman »

Hey troops thought I would do a post to get some feedback from you fellow organic growers. So from day one I have had fungus gnats. Although I don't think they have affected my plants too much because I try and stay on top of them with sticky pads and mosquito bites. Have tried nematodes but they don't work for me because I fed them once but the remainder solution it said on packet I couldn't store so after 1 use I had to throw the rest out, so not really worth it for me. Also purchased mites that attack the fungus gnat eggs in the soil. They were OK but most of them just climbed out of the pot and tried to escape lol also I noticed the neem feeds keep the numbers down as well.

I was wondering what all your methods were (not mentioning the above) for killing them off or keeping them at bay when growing organically.

I am currently on my 5th grow using this GHO soil, just transplanted another 6 babies using dynomyco and watered there before pic Image

I've got them too. Usually not much harm if you have the sticky pads, and I spray some neem oil in early veg.
But I am going to get sharp sand and cover the top layer of the soil with it. I was tols it shreds their wings and kills them.

Yellow traps and mosquito dunks normally kill the buggers off for me.

I just leave one of the donut dunk things in the feed bucket and it lasts a grow or three.

Honestly mate I think they smell the goodness in the soil and seek it out lol Like 2 days ago my propagation tent with the babies had none then today there was loads of the wee buggers in there lol luckily I was transplanting today anyway, however some def slipped through and followed the babies into my groom
