Closed loop dwc wort chiller
So I'm in the planning phase for dwc and I'd be wanting to build one of these wort chillers. Just how big a chiller will I need to cool 2 seperate buckets of say 60L max using worts in a closed loop system?
Would a Hailea AC100a do it?

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
i think there is a bit more to wort in question. like what is cooling the wort coil and how fast would the fluifrun through it etc. i honestly have no answers to any of these questions but im pretty sure there alot of factors to installing one bud

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
@Hydro should have all the answers to these questions I would think. He runs a wort chiller into his DWC buckets.
Fundamentally, how do you split the Cooling Stream or do you keep it from bucket 1 to bucket two Maybe it’s just ambient temperature that’s been fixed and re-circulates through the two buckets.
I am curious to on how this system works.

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
Ok so here's my take on it. Have an external 'res' with bleach water in, in that res have a pump that pumps water to the aquarium chiller to be cooled, water from the chiller goes to wort 1 input, cools the dwc bucket and then exists wort 1 exit and connects to wort 2 input cooling dwc bucket 2 which exits wort 2 exit and feeds back into the 'res' with the pump in. Rinse repeat. I'm thinking leave the pump on permanently so cooled water is always circulating, have the 'res' in a cooler box, chiller comes on when temp goes out of range.
I'm just not too sure how to size the chiller correctly? and their a bit pricey even secondhand and don't want to be getting that part wrong

I'm wanting to cool two seperate stand alone dwc buckets in different tents at different stages of growth with just the one chiller

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
I did a Google search for this and could not find anything except for a water pump. You need to know the liquid volume that you intend on cooling which is probably 5 gallons or less.
Are you planning an RDWC or a DWC?
As a piece of side info, I am almost a week into DWC using beneficials and don’t see any issues thus far.

In that case I think the small hailea would do it ok as it's rated for upto 100 litres. But I think I'll hold fire until I know for sure due to the cost. I've got a little diy wilma in there at the moment and have been monitoring the water temps which have been 23c to 25c which isnt ideal for dwc.anova.330 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 10:28 pmI did a Google search for this and could not find anything except for a water pump. I'm planning on dwc and not recirculating due to space and the two buckets being in seperate tents. To be honest I was going to use some homemade B. Amyloliquefaciens of a higher concentration than what botanicare provide. I had been looking into using endosan 8 and running sterile but I believe it can be a bit hot and the homade beneficials will cost peanuts in comparison.
@anova.330 What's you're water temps at then?

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
Hi Nom, you shouldn't need a chiller in dwc if your bucket is going to have an airstone in.
I thought colder temps and chillers were all about dissolved o2 in recirculating systems, your air stone will give them all the o2 needed.
As for slime and stuff, just add a splash of h2o2 weekly. There's enough shit in the UK tap water to kill most bugs too.
60L is a big bucket size, what size tent is it going in?

Re: Closed loop dwc wort chiller
@Marcus I was going to put it in an 80x80x200. You reckon 60L bucket is too big then?
