Anyone read any good books?

Post by Keeno »

I was talking about books on a podcast recently and it's got me digging through my old books for a read. I'd not read a full book till I was 16. A fella I was working with gave me a book to read and I couldn't put it down once I'd started it. It was the first book in a series by a author called Conn iggulden. He has done other series, some I've not read or wasn't aware of till I had a Google. The 2 series I've read I highly recommend for anyone who loves history.

Emperor series : https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/series/EMP/emperor

Conqueror series: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/seri ... an-dynasty

The emporer series is about Julius Caesar, the conqueror series about Ghengis Khan. It's labeled fiction as to tell the story in full bits do need filling In but he bases the books off the facts available and researches the life's and times of these empires to fill in the parts. And explains where he had to fill in or add at the end of each book.

The emporer series said on the cover "if you liked the film gladiator, you will love this". As a arrogant 16 year old I thought never. I've read both series back to back numerous times now and am about to read them again. I recommend anyone who likes history have a go at them.

Read my way through all the Freddie Forsyth books in the past year, they do get a bit samey after a while but still a great pile of books. I've got a soft spot for Bill the galactic hero too, but I mostly read history.

If you like this sort of historically inspired fiction, I would thoroughly recommend the Troy series by David Gemmell (and also authored by his wife who completed the work after he died).

I imagine you can pick them up second hand for a few quid each!

Think and Grow Rich.

I don't really read books but this had me gripped. It's about the law of attraction and includes some interesting stuff about some of the most successful people in the world.

Peace

This was going to be the next series I posted in here @flip. Very good books them. Banokles, kalliades, argurious, so many unforgettable characters. The author does a great job explaining how some of the myth could have happened. Thats another series I've read a few times.

"Everything I want to do is Illegal " - Drawing upon 40 years' experience as an ecological farmer and marketer, Joel Salatin explains with humor and passion why Americans do not have the freedom to choose the food they purchase and eat.
Amazing read!
