Drying smells

Post by wutang »

Hey all

I'm currently drying my harvest and going to dry trim it so most of the fan leaves have gone and sugar leaves remain, purely because I was in a rush to chop and hang to break down some of my time, as wet trimming takes me ages as I did it by hand before.

Drying temps are between 15.5c - 17.5c and humidity at 54-60%

It has been 4 days since the chop and hang

Stems are still bending and no dry snap, testing on several stems thick and thin

Now for the last few days I smelt some nice bud smell, and today it smells more like hay and when you agitate the bud and smell it, the smell is kind of spicy or very slightly eye watering and doesn't smell of the subtle pungent bud aroma.

The only thing Ive changed is my temps and lowered them a degree or two from between 17.5 to 21c

There's no bud rot rot or mould forming either.

Is this smell normal when drying? I've only ever done a really shit grow before this one and I stressed the plant too much ans and although a massive harvest, the buds were too dry and heat fried some the lights and didn't smell like dank to me.

Interested to hear how you guys describe the smells that you experience and whether its normal?

Thanks in advance

Wu.

Smells like hay. Nothing to worry about.
Most of mine seem to take 7 to 10 days to dry.

I presume the dank smell comes back when you start to cure?

Drying dope is harder than growing it tbh.... the aroma your encountering rite now is the chlorophyll evaporating off...slash the hay smell I myself would try get the temps at constantly 20 degrees toss the dope then about 10 days its ready to be cured

great googly moogly!

I would say it's harder. There is more to it than originally thought for me. Plus as mentioned about smell, it's very easy to burn off the terpenes and the goodies, especially mid summer in an outhouse.

There seems to be no short cuts to be made for quality weed when drying.....that's for sure

Yep..that's why I've kept my temps low with the advice of others on here too. Ive also heard that going too low can mess up the drying too. I just wanted to know whether that smell is normal throughout the drying process or are my temps screwing it over?
