Not seedlings anymore..

Post by Pending »

Somebody mock me and tell me to just go ahead and do it.. It's time to turn off the lights.. They be desperate to flower.. I wasn't happy with the roots when I transferred them to their final containers.. The early, healthy, larger plants that got re-potted first I was very careful not to disturb the roots.. They were slow to respond, mostly, and just now coming around.. Been two/three weeks.. The last few, one week ago, almost to a plant seemed to fall apart in my hands and I lost some roots.. Really pissed me off.. I had let these dry out for a few days prior to re-pot.. They all look/looked better, more vigorous than the first plants the following day.. What gives?? Do I set back the week old transfers for a week or two and start my established plants, or go with what's vigorous and running amuck trying to take over the garden?? 13 plants, 5X5 under 1000watt dimmable.. :bye:

That sounds like a lot of plants if they are going to get over 2 ft tall. I would keep running them all as you are, you shouldn't have to hold one group back a week.

I personally like to water before I transplant. It helps me keep the soil together as I transplant them.
That's the way I went about it with the first bunch.. I think the watered soil sustained the plants in stasis and the plants roots didn't need to grow/seek H2O for a number of days or a week.. I watered them in the next day.. Second set/ swap/ no H2O till next day.. Only watered perimeter of bucket/32oz aqua.. Boom!! Ran right past first group.. It's just curious..
many thanks

Would you hold off a week or two before starting flowering?? It's just the time they've been in the new soil that has me concerned..

Just blathering at myself.. For craps sake how many plants can I damage in one session.. Damaging plants trying to sex them.. Apparently, plants that have had their tops taken have vulnerable stems that will snap in to two pieces like a spring salad when sexing/training.. Two in the same container.. How long do I need to hold these back now.. I need a bowl.. laters'

Its not uncommon to snap or damage plants early on when training. Should you do so just tape them up loosely and most of the time they will heal and come back stronger.

Flower time.. Poor plants, I'm sure they're confused.. The lights stayed on for 24 hours then went out for 12.. Usual 18/6).. I took (3) cutting each from the ones I think are female (4) plants, and (2) each from the remaining (8) plants four suspected male.. One tossed because it was def. male.. How common are hermaphrodite plants?? having a hard time sexing plants for some reason.. Between soil/water issues, fixtures tools and other plants being dropped on one another, transfer issues and damage just trying to sex the damn things.. All I wanted to do was not flower the whole damned room at once, but noooo'... I got one damn plant I'm sure is female.. One.. I think I'm going to end up with only one plant each in my 15/20 gallon totes (2).. Every thing else is in a 5 gallon bucket.. I'm seeing a couple of different types o plants.. Broader thick lush bushy greens and lanky darker greens w/purple/red stems.. Nothing that looks like my Mex. Mt. Sativa that was my fav. some thirty odd years ago.. The green bushy plants could surprise me as I'm growing under a new light to me.. 600/750watt MH.. The plant is complex enough.. Time to change the bulb over and raise the light a bit.. HPS time.. Will post pix's soon..

This is exhausting.. Turned the light on in the room to change the timer and run the light until the start of the first dark period.. Closed the room off and went to bed.. Was pleased with the dark staring at me from under the door when I woke up.. Lights will come on in an couple of hours, go ahead and swap bulbs over, mist the cuttings.. OhForFucksSake the 60watt daylight bulb aver the vanity is on..

Sounds like your having a bit of a nightmare @Pending. I think I remember an oldschool grower who only grew regs putting a bag over 1 side branch to truck it into thinking is was in flower and therefore got the 1 plant to show sex long before he needed the rest of the plant to. Might be worth a look if you are growing regs all ghe time.

As for how common are hermie plants... not something I see a lot of. If you are worried about the mess up in lighting you described above id not be to worried at all. Once or twice with a mix up of lighting shouldn't be a big issue.

It's supposed to be easy.. I've done this before many times and never had it fight me like this.. The light issue was just typical of every step so far.. The sex thing was/is weird pre flowers.. I used to be the best.. Pissed people off calling out their plants early enough I would have thought it would save them some dashed hopes but nope.. I'm the bad guy.. Finally have one confirmed female.. She's a beast.. 2@90%sure girls, 3@90%sure male.. Not cutting anything at this point though I am looking forward to the space.. Gardens a bit tight right now..

Finally was able to sex a few plants.. Tossed two and made a big difference in getting light to ALL the plants, not just the tops.. Wanted to claim some pollen from the most vigorous plant but it was in a container that had (3) plants in it sooo.. Cut the plant down to the last/lowest branch.. Pulled it from it's container and shook the soil out of it's roots.. Unceremoniously stuffed said same plant into 6" container with an early, unsexed clone from a set-up accident.. Threw some new soil & water at it, put it in a white kitchen trash bag sealed and put away.. I'll check them in a week.. All goes as planned, when the clone shows it sex the male will already be making pollen.. It'll be cut and put into a paper bag for sorting/drying.. If the clones another male, we just collect a second source of pollen but if it's a girl.. Seeds.. I had forgotten how much fun making seeds was.. Anyway.. gunna look at the third cull for the hundredth time, looks to be trying to show both sexes.. more to come
