Far red led lights
Who is using far red additional lighting?
I recently bought a @Invisible Sun FR8 board and stuck it to my ish265.
It is currently set to come on 5 mins before main lights out and for ten minutes afterwards. Main lights are on 12/12
I have read that you can leave lights on for longer than 12 hours without stopping flowering and some people say to use them around lights on as well.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me on this?
I have to say that they really seem to have given my plants a boost with the current timings but I want to know if they can be even better.

Re: Far red led lights
I've been researching this. As I have been looking for a propogation light. The one I am looking at is a far blue spectrum which grows short stocky seedlings perfectly.fibrosux wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 9:39 amWho is using far red additional lighting?

As a rule of thumb, blue is more for veg and red more for flowering. So I would say it wouldn't hurt having them on all the time in flkower.
See what someone else comes up with. But that would be my stance right now on that subject.

Re: Far red led lights
It's my understanding that the far red makes the plant think it's in shade/low light and changes it's response accordingly, making it switch to night mode quIcker and so getting extra growth time.
I am considering switching them on for 10 or 15 mins at lights on as well to simulate dawn as well as dusk.

Re: Far red led lights
Yeah that's what it states about that light. Maybe it's a very specific wavelength?fibrosux wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 9:50 amIt's my understanding that the far red makes the plant think it's in shade/low light and changes it's response accordingly, making it switch to night mode quIcker and so getting extra growth time.

The blue vs red comes from the different spectrums the old HID's and other bulbs gave. A lot of people used to swap out for a further red bulb in flower.

You can always count on Shane for some good clear, concise info.
So too much far Red with Cannabis would just cause too much stretch. But, that can be counteracted with far blue, much like the sun.
This could be benificial to know though, maybe we want a little stretch, or a little less, so add more far blue

Re: Far red led lights
Well I have been looking at one of these:
Sunblaster T5 Nano Propagation Grow Light for Cuttings Clones Seeds All Sizes (24w - 60cm)
amazon.co.uk
Fairly affordable too.
Maybe their smallest version,as a supplement light would calm down the stretch.

Re: Far red led lights
I've had a listen and it was interesting but only briefly mentioned what I want to use them for, triggering day and night modes faster by just adding far red in for 15 minutes around lights out ( and maybe lights on) and so simulating natural light changes throuout the day.Treetrunk wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 10:18 amhttps://youtu.be/AS-FUIpF47U

Re: Far red led lights
I think maybe you are reffering to light schedules?
You can do16 light 12 dark on a reapeating cycle but you need a programmable timer or to change the light's manually.
It is the dark period which triggers the flowering as far as I can rememeber off the top of my head?
Don't take my workd for it, have a look up.
