DWC pH swinging like crazy
Morning all,
Another issue... im having no luck atm, my hydro and soil setups are both fucking with me...
I pH'd my bucket to 5.8 last night about 10pm, by 8am this morning the ppm was approx 7.5 and have no idea whats causing this, I dumped the last res as i thought something nasty could be growing in the water and even swapped the bucket for a brand new, sterile one.
Setup:
chiller set to 18 celsius
25l nutrient solution - ~150-200 ppm
Seedling not yet in due to this issue
pH'd to 5.8
Environment temp - approx 25 celsius, not currently controlling temp as theres no baby in there
Inidica Nutrients - brand new nute company im trialling
RO water used, 22ppm
RH about 60%
Mars Hydro sp150
4l/m air pump with bubbler line (not sure on actual name but not an airstone, more like rubber hose with holes in)
Gold Label Hydroton
could it be that I haven't cleaned the hydroton enough so the dust is affecting pH?

Re: DWC pH swinging like crazy
Personally I'd be setting the ph around 5.5 at the moment and let it climb up to around ph 6.0 max seedlings always seem to do better in dwc with a lower ph to start out with I found my self in dwc I'd also replace the airline for an air stone they just do a better job

DWC pH swinging like crazy
Means the ec silution isnt strong enough as plants are uptaking the nutes and makes the ph rise . Thats the genersl rule .
But there are no plants in ?
make sure when u mix the nutes and ph , that the water is at operating temps my friend . RO water will flucuate big time if it isnt

Re: DWC pH swinging like crazy
Ps could you also not remove the hydroton and clean again then sit it in some ph'd water for 24 hours to see if that helps

trex - the temperature thing is a good point, it was a fresh batch of water so probably came through the RO filter at about 10 celsius if that, i re-pH'd this morning so i'll see what it is when i get homeTrex wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:08 amMeans the ec silution isnt strong enough as plants are uptaking the nutes and makes the ph rise . Ras - good point, ill give the hydroton another clean, and the reason I use airlines is to distribute the bubbles more evenly to help with root distribution. But i can always drop 2 air stones in I guess.
Thanks Both

Yes , when i started coco i would mix and ph it all sometimes at 6-7deg . 5-6 hrs later , everything was out of balance . it made my head spin lol Im a plumber and do a bit of water treatement and should have caught on as i work with e.c and ph all the time duh lolgrownnotflown420 wrote:trex - the temperature thing is a good point, it was a fresh batch of water so probably came through the RO filter at about 10 celsius if that, i re-pH'd this morning so i'll see what it is when i get homeTrex wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:08 amMeans the ec silution isnt strong enough as plants are uptaking the nutes and makes the ph rise . RO water is even worst as there will be 10x more cation and anion exchanges as the temps change .

ahaha, i never even gave it a thought!
Is RO water really that beneficial? or could I just dechlorinate my tap water? my tap waters about 120ppm
my first ever hydro run was run solely with tap water, not even dechlorinated and it seemed fine to me...

for growing it depends eh , my tap water is .245 ec , and it does well .
above that it may cause probs and then an ro is beneficial .
Tap water if let sit for 12-24hrs , the chlorine dissipates , especially if theres air being put through . and it contains trace minerals all depending on the filtration . Mn,Bo,Mg,Cal,Zn,Fe,Mb etc etc

lol i have a good RO system top of the line , it gives off only 2.2 gallons per hour haha ,grownnotflown420 wrote:hmm, tempted to just say fuck it and use tap water...Trex wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:35 am
