Water pump instead of airstones.

With a bubbler could I just use a water pump instead of airstones?
If the pump was powerful enough to agitate the surface would that work?

yes it would work, but not as effectively. the pump would floom the surface of the water creating dissolved oxygen, same as airstones....BUT....the airstones , by creating bubbles, will produce more surface agitation due to the bubbles which have a larger surface area, overall and hence produce more DO..
there is a reason they use airstones. diffusers are even better as they produce smaller bubbles, which again have more surface area, when breaking the surface
