Burping during curing
so burping the jars is an attempt to let any excess moisture we don't want in the jars to evaporate, right?
But surly (and I may be totally wrong) you're just allowing the contents of the jar to get to the same humidity as the environment youre burping the jar in.
It came to me during the downpour today as someone said the humidity today is 78%. If I opened my jars and left them in that environment they'd get more moisture not less.
Have I missed a point or is someone more science minded going to explain to my brain what we should be doing?
Just a point for discussion really.

Re: Burping during curing
Good question, I have been wondering the same myself as I've been burping mine.
I'm sure someone here will be able to help

Re: Burping during curing
yea man when they're curing those buds are like sponges and will take on moisture :) when burping you're not really releasing moisture but more exchanging the stale air for fresh. Microlife is at work and consumes gasses.ohlordyeah_420 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 5:43 pmso burping the jars is an attempt to let any excess moisture we don't want in the jars to evaporate, right?

Re: Burping during curing
Seems right. Be awesome to find some real science on it. I’d guess what’s breaking down in your weed during the curing becomes gaseous and you burp it to release that and allow in fresh air to do some more breaking down, but I have no freaking clue. Ha.

Re: Burping during curing
Yeah, I’ve never had to worry about burping them in high humidity, but I’m a worrier and wouldn’t want to or I’d be stressing the whole time about my weed. I’d either throw a Boveda in there, so that it would get that humid air back down, or maybe burp them in the fridge. Someone smarter than me will know if that works, but refrigerators are pretty dry environments.

Re: Burping during curing
I don't really burp per say. I dry it slow and cool in the 45f 55F range and jar it when the feel is right to me. Sticky to the touch but burns easily when broken up for a joint. Then into canning jars I use a vacuum jar sealer super light just to when it gives you that "pop" when you open and store in a cool dark place. I'll open 1 as smoke is needed or occasionally just to check and it's always sticky and burns easily, if anything the strain smell gets somewhat stronger over time.
Anyone that has time for drama is not gardening enough.
