Roots - what's most important about them?
Hello GrowRoom420.
Lately I've been noticing that some of the cuttings I root in my aero prop are taking longer to establish. Once they all have big nice roots I move them from the aeroprop to 5'' pots full of coco mixed with Dynomyco. That's what I've always done. I've noticed lately some of my cuttings (let's say 1 or 2 out of 6) Take much longer to adapt and take off. What do you think might be causing that?

Do you think it's the heat? I read somewhere that its good to have the water slightly cooler than room temp. I was doing the opposite and had a heater under the aerocloner but when I took it away they shot off.

Yes lordy mate. That's one of my main thoughts but I didn't want to share until I hear anyone else saying. Obviously temps are high this summer and maybe that's the main reason? But of course, why are the others progressing well whilst one or 2 are lacking behind?

I've never seen that , but I've had similar idea in my head. I always take cuttings from the very bottom

Re: Roots - what's most important about them?
Did the ones that took longer to root have harder stems? Last batch of clones I cut, the more malleable shoots rooted about 5 days faster
I was in a pinch and had to supercrop my mother plant a week before taking clones, I'll never do it again though. Went from 7-10 day rooting to 14

Yes, the 2 that are slow have harder(woody) stems. But yet they have grown roots as big as the other ones in the propagator. Wonder what happened after they were moved in coco?

Re: Roots - what's most important about them?
do you lightly scrape the bottom inch if the cutting?
if the stems are a bit on the stiff/woody side, this helps ive noticed in the past.
Also theres a widely held belief that cutting from the bottom of the plant root quicker than those from the top of the plant.
The condition of the mother plant will also influence how quickly they root. you want the mum to be almost ready for watering when you take the cuts, so the cuts are verging on dehydration, this will encourage them to get roots out faster to search for nutrients.
Im sure i read somewhere that you also want the mum to be slightly lower in nitrogen, but you will want to check that out, as i cant remember if it was specifically nitrogen, it might have been a different element (it might also be bollox, you know what the internet is like for information)

Re: Roots - what's most important about them?
Billy, the roots were already there as they were rooted in the aerocloner.
Yesterday I pulled the cutting that was stunned and I found out that all the roots were dead/gone. That's 3 out of 8 dead this time. Wonder what could have caused that?

I just disinfected all my tray/domes etc. because my last batch was fucked. Better now though
