Re: Building a grow equipment setup
I removed the comment about a variac because he posted just before me and mentioned "variable speed"Hmr81 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 3:55 pmWhat aspie said about the controller, about a tenner I think it cost me from my local grow shop. In terms of pressure, I ran my dan about 50% speed which gave a nice pressure but if rhd and heat became a problem I speed the fan up and allow a little more ventilation using one of the vents to help negate the negative pressure caused by running the fan fast.
And yes, sunglasses for the win!
I wouldn't go for those cheap ones, as they slow it down in a different way than a variac does, and shortens the life of the fan. The one I bought was around the £70 IIRC. Best bit of kit I've bought for growing.

Re: Building a grow equipment setup
handy suggestion as ive not lit her up yet its been sat boxed month or two waiting for other bits and didnt even consider sunnies. ive got some polarized shades somwhere ill have to remember that before lights on test
as for the controller ive looked at a couple, was told that plug in varispeed would work for that fan/filter.
but have also heard/read what aspie says about shortening of life with that type.
the other i saw was called "control freak" also a plug in around £40 with a temp probe that controls the -/+ of the fan speed. i belive this model not only slows the fan down but reduces running cost unlike the varispeed? as well as the possible efficiency or reliability/wear issues aspie mentioned.
will need to look into this more then i think..

when you say one of the vents as additional air in how do you remain light tight if using exit socks as air intakes. or did you mean the passive vents? again how do you keep light tight with passive vents. do they need opening closing manually with lights on/off
as i had wondered this already
thanks again

Re: Building a grow equipment setup
We have the added benefit of the tent being in a dark shed so we can use vents without worrying about light leak.
Whoever said the best things in life are free blatantly grew their own pot

Re: Building a grow equipment setup
Ahh I see fair play.
With my tent it's in.my bedroom in a corner. So the spare vents are against the wall. But I would worry still about light leaks.
Also mine is green cube and intend to use the passive vents. So I assume those that do use the passive vents shut them routinely even 18+ or 12 hrs
That being the case I may need a air intake fan with duct as the room my tent is in won't always be dark.
--------
I've just taken some more pics.
The ducting is acoustic ducting so although the bend looks agressive more like a U bend...
it's 4" diameter duct inside 6/7" outer casing.
I have everything ratcheted up high right now and the light is a little close to the carbon filter *see pics
But due to being led and nft should be able to get the suggested GN telos range out of that with a scrog
Distance from nft top tray to light now 130cm.
Plant strain intended height 100cm.
GN suggested height - for tells 0008.
To canopy at flower 60cm
To canopy at veg 80cm
To canopy at cut/seed 100cm
So at seed I have 130cm *more than the 100cm
And through veg should have enough range of movement to keep at 80cm
The main issue may come at flower 130 light to top tray plant height 100cm approx *pinapple chunk
Leaves negative 30cm.
But prvoided I use scrog i couod then keep the canopy at 60cm from the light. But would mean it restricts plant height to 70cms through flower stage.
Lastly in the pics you can see available floor space with nft on the right taking up roughly half the floor space. Considering getting another nft tray to go in
Given the other factors with lights and space maybe the way to go with 2 trays 2-3 plants of the same strain per tray but with a shorter veg period keep them lower?

Re: Building a grow equipment setup
Ive just thought i remember seeing that the telos can have the ballast/driver removed..
so possibly mounting the light 45 from how it is now and remove the driver to get the light sitting higher but only maybe gets us 15cm more approx. but still its a bit more wiggle room.

Re: Building a grow equipment setup
I have had a play around today and just got the filter and light set up a bit better with less kinks in the ducting and pulls neg pressure (sucks the sides of tent in )
have also rotated the light 45 degreees and fitted it parralel to the filter/fan.. looks a bit ore tidy..
but would that light be to close to filter in that position at that height..
