Re: Re situation in america
As a woman of color, i mind my business and grow my own. I fit into too many "other" labels to feel safe in the world.
The world is scary and im thankful for my own little house where i keep to myself.
I watch the world burn around me .....
Someday i hope there will be peace.

I don't think there will ever be peace. Not even if there were just two people alive.DazenConfused wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 6:55 pmAs a woman of color, i mind my business and grow my own. I fit into too many "other" labels to feel safe in the world.

We can't change the past, but we can learn from it, but violence is not the way.
Tearing down statues is wrong and just plain stupid IMO.
I don't see anyone burning $50 notes because of the president that's on them (for those that do not know, it's Ulysses S. Grant who owned a slave.)
You see people who want statues taken down, but not the buildings that they paid for to be built.
What about Cleopatra's needle... It was made for Thutmose III who owned slaves. Does that come down too?
It's a mad, scary world out there.

Re: Re situation in america
When blood runs in the streets many see a tragedy, others see opportunity. I think the reaction and protests and anger were 100% righteous and 100%organic (or as organic as you can be with social media) but I have seen stuff that definitely points to people actively stirring shit up. Stories of white supremacy asshats starting looting and stuff, knowing mob mentality would take over and shit would blow up, and back at BLM and other protesters. There’s always more going on then meets the eye, but the one thing that’s forsure is change is sorely needed my friends :( hope everyone is staying safe

Re: Re situation in america
I think statues of confederate generals and the like have their place, but they need to be A. Truly educational and honest about the subject and the history and/or B. Located in a place with context as to the fact that they were traitors, that lost the war and that the statutes aren’t historic relics. The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 7:06 pmI don't think there will ever be peace. They were put up purely to make white people feel good during times of racial strife. Keep the statues but put plaques saying “this man betrayed his country to fight in a coup with the exspress goal of keeping coloured people as slaves. He was a shitty general that won two battles before retreating in humiliation” not the bullshit a lot of them say now about states rights and victories against the odds.
But I’m a young, middle class white guy so it’s possible I should just keep my mouth shut? I honestly don’t know

Re: Re situation in america
Two wrongs don’t make a right, but I think it’s easier for people to fight for the shit in front of them. People working for what amounts to almost nothing need help to but if we all just stopped buying stuff like that... what would we have left(electronics, textiles, chemicals, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals)? The majority of a lot of those things are made in heavy poverty countries. And more importantly what would those people that are atleast making alittle income have left? The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 6:43 pmA few things I cannot get my head around.
1: I've seen a lot of photos in the press as well as news coverage from both the BLM side and from the other site. Why are the BLM using Smart phones? They're complaining about slavery, yet don't mind using phones made with Chinese slave labour.
2: Apparently, it's wrong for a white person to "black up", yet it's okay for them to "brown up" and it's called a tan. How is that okay? At what shade of brown does it become wrong?
And I don’t really get the second point? What do you mean by black up? Like a tan is a natural chemical reaction, blackface is a old school racist comedy routine? But I may be misunderstanding what you ment
Anyways I’m running my mouth again, broke my foot and I’m stuck at home losing my mind

As to the 2nd point, not all people who "black up" do it for a "racist comedy routine"
When I mentioned "brown up" I was referring to a tan that comes out of a bottle, not from a chemical reaction with light. The latter is natural, out of a can is not.

Re: Re situation in america
I think the line for making your self dark is maybe altered by your motives, Maybe? Being white I mean I don’t know it makes people of colour feel, but I have to assume that a person that wants to look tanned because they feel better then when they are pale should be ok even if they get pretty dark. I think the issue would come from doing it to try and pretend to be black, make fun of it or stuff like that. The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 10:11 pmI don't know which part you're referring to when you say "Two wrongs don’t make a right"Thejokerjosh59 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 7:50 pmTwo wrongs don’t make a right, but I think it’s easier for people to fight for the shit in front of them. And by the two wrongs thing I mean that yeah it sucks we support that system, but not using the tools we have to fight for a better world wouldn’t make what’s happening at those factories any better right?

By the sound of it, you're not from the UK. I am guessing you've never heard of darkie day (Mummer's day) That is one example where it has nothing to do with black people/slavery or anything else along those lines.Thejokerjosh59 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:39 pmI think the line for making your self dark is maybe altered by your motives, Maybe? Let's get back to the other point where you have people who are complaining about slavery. Yet have no issues using a phone that was made with slave labour. Do they not see the irony in that?

No lol Niagara Falls, Canada and no I don’t think I’ve heard of that, but possibly a similar tradition in Germany or Holland. The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:57 pmBy the sound of it, you're not from the UK. And that’s not what I said, most people that understand where that stuff comes from would clearly like to see that change. But I think that’s a different issue then people being killed in the streets of developed nations by people that are paid and in trusted to protect everyone. I am totally down with paying more for my phone to increase the quality of life of people in the third and second world. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to use the tools I have, cell phone included to try and make change here and now
