The element sounds about right. I was almost finished cooking at the time when it went, so I didn't notice that it had stopped working.
This normally trips my breakers when my oven goes! and nothing cooks!

Thanks, mate. I'm going to get someone to fix it. I am not going to try and dismantle parts of an oven. I always end up with spare bits when I dismantle things.

Think of a blend of Mr Magoo and Frank Spencer. That's me.
It's just the element mate, and they are made to be replaceable/consumable and you can replace that mate. Just post a picture or the model number and we can advise you on what to buy as a direct replacement element and explain how to replace it. (it will be about 4 screws max, and 2x push on terminals) - easy as wiring up and LED.

JUST MAKE SURE TO ISOLATE ALL MAINS SUPPLY TO THE OVEN.

If not sure just switch off the main consumer unit to the whole house for 10 mins.

Post a pic of your oven at least before you proceed?

The gas igniter clicking is common fault when the burner is blocked (or generally goosed).... Does it happen more when the oven is warm or cold?

1st thing to try is a can of compressed air across the burners (whilst its switched off)... It could also be a faulty thermostat which regualtes the gas to cut out so the oven tries to reignite constantly....

Yeah Aspie.... We want a pic now just so me and minty can work it out lol

British Gas condemned the last one we had, all because it was missing one of the black disks that go on top of the hobs. It was only one that was missing, and on a hob that we never use, but the prick still condemned it.

The landlady had to buy a new one and wasn't happy about it.
If this is true then your landlord is a Fairy (C-u-n-t - feck you Fairy filter - this is serious).

If they condemned it then you should question what you are getting for your rent mate.

Sorry Aspie, but Gas, Water, and Electrics all have different risks.
  • Water = You get Wet
  • Electrics = You get Shocked
  • Gas = You get DEAD
Don't take chances especially if you are renting mate. Make them pay for the buildings upkeep and equipment. You are effectively doing maintenance by living there. Ask them for for basic supplies.

A new oven should be seen as an investment from the person owning the house.

I was using the grill the other day when something in the house tripped the electric.
This would be what I mentioned about mine. Once those element short they go dead short and will usually trip a breaker. We just need to know what model you have so we can get a spare from ebay.

cookers are usually fed from a separate circuit of your consumer unit, with a larger cable, because they take higher amperage. this is the stuff that will kill you, so get someone in mate

To put into perspective:-

WATER = You get WET = You Drown = Your DEAD.
ELECTRIC = You get SHOCKED = You shake Around = Your DEAD
GAS = Your Dead = Your Dead = Your Dead

Just looking out for you and yours Aspie mate.

Not so much in the UK. Most ovens run on a 13amp plug now. But he has already said he has a gas oven so the grill will be 13 amp.

Let him post which model he has and I bet it can be changed from within the appliance itself (e.g. un plug it common sense will apply)

most cookers are wired directly, they don't have 13 amp plugs. if you look behind the cooker you will see it going into a box on the wall, its not plugged.
