Any UK electrician's here?

Post by The Aspie Toker »

We have a gas oven, but it has an electric grill.

I was using the grill the other day when something in the house tripped the electric.

Today, I went to use the grill, and after a few minutes I noticed there wasn't any heat coming from the rods (or whatever you call them)

I thought it maybe the fuse (I haven't tested that yet) but I did notice that the light for the grill is on, so there is electric going to the oven.

Any ideas?

I've just edited my original post to remove the clicking part.

If I turn on the grill, the grill light comes on.
I can turn the oven light on/off.

There is no heat coming on at all for the electric grill.

I ain't got a clue on the make/model.
British Gas condemned the last one we had, all because it was missing one of the black disks that go on top of the hobs. It was only one that was missing, and on a hob that we never use, but the prick still condemned it.

The landlady had to buy a new one and wasn't happy about it.

Its the element Aspie... If you look at where it connects at the back there will be some bolts to fix it to the inside... Undo those... There will be one wire on each prong.... Its just a giant resistor in reality but the size and shapes will be different depending on the model..... I did my sisters one... Was about 15 quid off espares

Thanks, mate. I'm going to get someone to fix it. I am not going to try and dismantle parts of an oven. I always end up with spare bits when I dismantle things.

Think of a blend of Mr Magoo and Frank Spencer. That's me.

I'm using the oven atm, mate. Got some chops on the go.

The element sounds about right. I was almost finished cooking at the time when it went, so I didn't notice that it had stopped working.

I'll get them to look at the oven igniter too, as I think something may have spilt onto it because although it clicks, it doesn't ignite the gas.
