Re: How do you germinate seeds?
Step 1- soak jiffy pellet in tap water
Step 2- let excess water drain from jiffy, squeeze gently
Step 3- plant seed about 1/2 inch deep and cover lightly with jiffy stuff
Step 4- put in tray with dome and heat mat under (do not put jiffy directly over the mat)
Step 5- wait 2-3 days and take a look, I've had 100% germination on about 40 seeds so far this way, no need for anything fancy imo

Your method is obviously working, stick with it imoTryingToLearn11 wrote:I soak the seeds in RO water for 24 hours and then put them right in the soil. I cover the tops with some plastic cups, get the humidity up to 70ish%, temp to 78*-80* in tent, and wait a few days. So far I’ve had 15 of 15 pop. I’m definitely going to be changing it up and following some of the things I’ve learned in this thread in the future though. I feel like I’ve gotten lucky so far after reading this. Ha.

T.B.H. I would fuck that up! I need to bleach my coffee cup but I'm too scared to do that ;o)

SOLD! - Based on the advice here and from listening to the Awesome Dank Tapes #6 I am gonna go for:-Marcus wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 9:50 amI've just tried an overnight soak in water and then straight to soil... 30% germ rate... FFS. Waste of decent genetics there.
Only germ beans 3 times a year, so I sometimes try different methods, forgetting I've always had bad results with them and always go back to the tissue paper.
- 8 hours (or until they drop) in tap water in a glass at 26℃ as that is actually my room temperature (Don't ask, dehumidifying a washing machine leak and the output from that is water and HEAT).
- Then into paper towels within Jiffy Bags in a dark warm place.
- Then into pre-soaked Jiffy cubes under my Philips Hue LED Germination light
- Then hopefully into the Tent in time for the Incredible Invisible Sun Competition.

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
In my experience you dont need to actively warm them Minty. I stick my jiffy bag in the kitchen cupboard for 3 days so its room temp or lower. No more than 20c I'd imagine.
8 hours in water will do, I do 12. A tap about 6-8 hours in should see them sink.
Once in the jiffy bag keep dark and try to resist peeking every day. 2-3 days you should have life. I'd check around end of day 2. To save opening the bag just hold up to a light.
Damp tissue, use unscented. Not overly wet. I spray mine with a water spray bottle thingy.

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
I stick mine in tap water for 24hrs then onto moist kitchen roll, folded over but just so it lips over the seed, keep in the cupboard till tap root shoots (usually another 24hours) then into a small pot and into the baby unit, dont think I've had one fail me yet ,

I'm growing in Hydroponic Clay Pebbles so thought it would help in the early days by giving the water some place to hang out.
