From HPS to LED
As the title says, but so much mis-information out there regarding LEDs I've hit a wall in my light of choice.
I'm looking to equally cover 4.5x4.5 scrog (ie achieving a similar luminum output at the edges as expected in the center) from a 1000w HPS with LED's with a maximum power draw of 900w.
My lamp of choice would be a HLG 550 v2 but it far exceeds my £360 budget.
Any suggestions?
Would 9x of these; in a 3x3 formation, equal the HLG 550 in performance even though it's power draw is 350w more?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254567602659
Thanks, JP

I've used different LED lights over the years, and theirs have been the best by far.

Re: From HPS to LED
hello and welcome along
when we talk about plant lights we really ignore lumens for LED. the plants work in the PAR range so we look at measures of photons per second umol/s. now that your all confused lol
Par is measure in PPF or PPFD and with led you want about 500-700 at all edges like you said. its just that the measurement your using wont give you an accurate answer
LED is always fairly high end for good quality units. but with the extra cash there are long term saving besides running cost but potential replacements of cheaper versions
there are alot of options on the interweb that with the above information you should hopefully be able find something in your budget that fits your area with and even PAR map (another way plant light is shown by good manufactures).
if you need me to explain any of these parts a little more, just let me know buddy

Re: From HPS to LED
Thanks guys :)
So am I right in thinking then that the lights in the link are trash?
Hard to compare two different lights when one gives info of luminums per LED (90 in this instance) and the other in ppfd

Re: From HPS to LED
If they are being sold as grow lights but are being measured by lumens chances are the seller or maker hasnt got a clue. id steer clear lol
