My QB Setup

Post by GrowGlow »

I've been using QB Type LEDs for a while now. Current setup in a 4×8.

The QBs above are V1s, V2s and V3s. A mixture of LM561C, LM301B and LM301H diodes. 3000K + 4000K for white diodes. The supplement Red strips are Osram 660nm + 730nm. The UVA strips are 395nm Epistar diodes.

Each QB Board has around 800 to 864 pieces of diodes. They are each fitted with a 320W Meanwell driver but does not exceed 50% power. The objective of this setup is to drive the diodes very softly to reduce heat and possibly allow plants closer to light.

The UVA is turned on at 2 x 4 hour intervals.

So far, has been working well for me. Thanks for reading!

Nice setup mate, looks like it cost a few pennies but very nice. Which Meanwell drivers are you running A/B or A&B? and are you dimming them or just under voltage / under current with them?

Love the UVA/B strips as well. I did a little playing with a cheap tropical UVAB bulb from Amazon and I defo think it makes a difference.

Very cool set up @GrowGlow. Canopy of light and decent light at that to. Fair play mate.

I've both the B and AB. Each board usually don't exceed 50% power output.

I would recommend getting the type 3 with both the A & B as they give you 3 types of dimming and allow adjusting both the voltage and current and they don't really cost much more than the A or B. Downside being they are harder to get hold off.

I believe newer models are now all AB. I use a potentiometer or dimmer on each driver so B or AB don't really bother me much.

We can get swept away by our thoughts,,or learn to step back and see them with clarity.

That is good to hear as they are just so much more flexible in terms of dimming. In terms of controlling the output (volts/current) I was thinking more about people who ever want to re-use the driver. Doesn't really make that much difference when they are pre-packaged with a light (but the 'old way' of sticking a screw driver in a tiny hole did kinda suck for dimming) but if your building your own light or just buying the driver separately I would say get a type 3 if you can as they are both Constant Current and Constant Voltage compatible so give the best of both worlds when it comes to deciding how to wire up your boards.

I purchased the wrong one and got a type A when I actually wanted/needed a type B (later found out they made the A/B) so learnt the hard way and it was originally purchased for Automation so that fecked me up but I ended up getting it for Free as it would have cost too much to return it to Texas and so I do still use it rather than pay out another £100+ on the replacement (felt real good to get it for free so Kudos to T.M.E in Texas). I'll automate it once this one breaks ;o)
