i think a grey ash or aged beech is about the only choice for the pipe stem. only cos i love the gray ageds look of gandalfs pipe
if your looking for a store bought version, the Churchwarden style of bucket and stem is about the closest generally available design. Mine has a chestnut bowl ;)
