Re: How do you germinate seeds?
I love how everyone had their own little twist on germination :) some great info here! I've gone old school this time and dropped some seeds straight into rockwool.

Can you germinate in riot root blocks, or is is best to transplant into them?

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
Root riot are made from sphagnum peat. They have a great air to water ratio so would make an excellent choice for germination.flipmonjig wrote: βFri May 01, 2020 9:20 amCan you germinate in riot root blocks, or is is best to transplant into them?
Saying that, lot's of people are boycotting because it's bad for the planet and isn't sustainable.

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
Seeds straight into root riot, into a Β£2 seedling tray/prop and put in sunny window until I see leaves then into an aeroponic prop to get some rootage! Only thing I do is spray the inside of the baby prop to keep the humidity high...

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
Wet paper towel in a small Tupperware container sitting on top of a heated propagator 22 Degrees for me, gonna try that leopard print cushion trickTictok wrote: βSat Oct 19, 2019 4:42 pmI use cheap spring water from Tesco (it's pH 6.2), add 1ml seaweed extract to a litre of the stuff and use that to soak the seeds in (just pour a bit in a cup). Only soak for about 7hrs, then they tend to sink. From there, onto a wet paper towel (cheapest brand you can find) soaked in the same water.
Between two plates and in the airing cupboard under a couple of cushions (leopard print seems to work best).
12-24 hrs later they've popped and sent out a root.
This method was only arrived at after failing with about six different seeds which worked out expensive. So far 100% success.

Re: How do you germinate seeds?
This is awesome. Just popped two seeds on a paper towel. Gonna wait the weekend and see if they do the thing...
I just have natural sunlight to aid me on my back porch .... Gonna see what happens.
