CMH / HPS / LED a̶r̶g̶u̶m̶e̶n̶t̶... DISCUSSION.

Post by Marcus »

Hi folks

So I'm in the market for some new lights and was about to grab a new CMH set up, then I happen upon a press release from Hortilux (who make HID lighting in the US) that they're shutting down, siting one reason as "unfortunately, the global component supplier base has almost all dried up." So that to me says China aren't making parts for HID lighting anymore???

Am I daft buying a new CMH rig is I can't get the bulbs???

For me LED just don't grow decent dope. They take longer, are more needy and also need a lot more heat in the tent to stay healthy. More prone to rot and too much leaf to trim at the end. But that's probably all user error...

I;m too old to learn to grow again, so what should I do?

Four candles?

:running-around:

I've only ever grown with LED and I'd totally agree about the leaves and temperature needs. I'm normally looking at 28c for flower.
I completely disagree about the potency.
I've grown plenty that hit's the spot.
If it still gets you shit faced after smoking nothing else for 2 months it must be good.
I probably smoke an OZ a week so my tolerance is pretty good.

I think I;m a bit harsh on the high isn't there, I probably meant to say it's a bit of a different high.

I'll edit that cause I sound like a right wanker stating that. Kinda came out wrong.

Yeh same I disagree with the first 2 points (LEDs grow better quality weed imo and they don't take any longer especially with IR can finish quicker even) But I agree :i agree: they are more needy ( :calmag: ) and they do need heat added in colder weather, and they are more prone to rot and can be more larfy. HPS tends to give denser bud but I still prefer LED, never used CMH tho :barmy:

I have retracted that 1st statement your honour! :judge: (that emoji don;t work but you get my meaning!)

But I do think the high is a slight thumbsdown for me, could be the strains I have run under LEDs though.
I also thinks the high from seeded weed beats unseeded.
The high I am after is probably a million miles from anyone else and same with theirs, so subjective or objective I can never remember the difference. Subjective I think.

CMH gives out that IR and UV all in one bulb, and you have radiant heat. It's like a sunny day on a hillside in that tent with the CMH running. The plants really respond better for me than HPS or LEDs.

See, I've grown with LEDs and am still on the fence with them.

Is the future still CMH for me?

What could be the new light of the future? Will be be able to send space ships to farm chunks out of the sun and we can hang them in out tents?

I wonder if we could invert a solar panel to work backwards if we plug a kettle in?

I think lights work with styles as well. My early led grows were not up to my hps grows, but I was growing how I would under hps. I tailored my grow style to suit led and never looked back. All that being said you are under cdm, that's a big step up from hps and not a light many have played with. I know someone else who won't use anything other than cdm. If that's your preferred light, stock up on a couple ballast and a few bulbs. That's got you covered for a few years at least.

I hear what you're saying @Keeno ...but is there any way.... I could convince you of the exact opposite???

😆😆😆😆😆

I can't help myself.

LEDs are the now. The future is yet to be seen. That being said, there are limits to efficiency and efficacy.

We gonna be growing under artificial suns soon?😬😆
