Looking for advice
Hi guys, it's almost that time and I'm going to purchasing some seeds for this year soon. I was wondering a couple of things, what is the difference with Autoflower seeds compared to normal seeds? And do Autoflower seeds need 12/12 light cycle etc??
Sorry all I'm very new to all this I tried last year and failed hard lol.
I'll be buying the seeds later so any tips before tonight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

Re: Looking for advice
Auto tend to be 18 hours light on all the way through.
Fem seeds you veg at 18/6 and then flip to 12/12 when you want to flip it into flower.

Re: Looking for advice
Also auto's tend to produce less flower. For example, i tend to run one fem plant in an 80x80 and look to get 8-10oz from it once dry. Int he same space id run two auto's and get anything from 6-8 oz from the two. Auto's are time limited, as in they are gonna grow and flower when they want where as a fem plant you can train and keep in veg for as long as you want before flipping and getting it to flower.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: Looking for advice
I started on autos only then went to photos ,now I do autos while I'm in veg . They get the same light as my photos 4-6week veg at 18/6 then they finish under 12/12 while my photos are flowering. Autos tend to yield less than photos and they can be temperamental most I've found don't like nitrogen based nutes but love their flowering P +PK nutes . Personally I would recommend a combination that way you get fast flavours from the autos and big yields from the photos .

Re: Looking for advice
That's brilliant. So as far as light cycles go they're very low maintenance then... They're gonna just do their thing without too much fussing around?Hmr81 wrote:Auto tend to be 18 hours light on all the way through.

Re: Looking for advice
Yea , you don't want to try and train an auto too hard as it can stress it out. Best ones we have done have been just lightly trained and let it go really.
That said , other than the light cycle you can do the same with a female plant and it would be fine too. I would recommend trying female seeds as they are more giving and controllable but if you just want to do a run and get shit sorted than go for an auto.
First plant I ever did was a white widow auto and she turned out well, about five Oz I think which isn't bad under the old blurple light we used to have.
Best thing you can do is just get going, open a diary and post up pics often with updates and people we happily walk you through it mate.
What medium are you using? Soil or Coco?

Re: Looking for advice
I agree with the general consensus on autos. They make a good bumper crop, or bonus indoor bud, but they can be finicky... If issues are encountered, most times you spent the rest of flower attempting to correct issues, and you end up harvesting a plant that has struggled, which is going to impact the potency of your hard work. Autos are advertised to be an easy way to start growing cannabis...In my opinion/experience, they can be very frustrating for the new grower.
Then there is the issue of taste in reference to Ruderalis used to make auto flower cannabis versus a photoperiod plant. Autos are known to have a grassy or hay aftertaste, regardless of the strain due to the use of Ruderalis. In my opinion it's subtle, yet always there. Just something to see if you notice in your adventures. I'm not trying to disuade you from growing autos, they are definitely worth a try, and sometimes you can find some very nice smoke.
I recommend running both photos and autos, but notice the variety of phenotypes present in photoperiod plants versus a pack of autos... Also know that if you have a photoperiod plant in veg, you aren't racing against time to fix a deficiency or ph issue.
Good luck and have fun. Mistakes are gonna happen. Just keep growing.

Re: Looking for advice
Agree with what’s said I prefer regs and fems over auto. I think for me autos just seem like a mini fem

Re: Looking for advice
Running autos with 24 hour lighting should give your more bud back come chop than running them on 18hours, so i read.Pork Chop Express wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 3:45 pmThat's brilliant.
