Growing Temperatures and Humidity

Post by wutang »

Hey all

Throughout the various stages of your grow, what temps do you try and achieve in your groom?

I'm currently in late flowering and planning on adjusting my controller again. I grow in the shed so I don't really get a decent gap between lights off and on temps esp during this winter in the UK.

Current settings:
Max temp = 28c
Heater kicks in at 23c and turns off when reaching 26c
RH set to 50%

Changing to:
Max temp = 26c
Heater kicks in at 22c and turns off when reaching 24c
RH set to 50%

I don't really want to lower the heater any more as my pot level temps were dropping to 16c when I had it set to come on at 20c.

My temp probe is located in the shade middle of the plant.

I use the ecotechnics fan controller.

Thank you

For optimal growth, you will want to follow the VPD (Vapor Pressure Deficit) chart to determine your humidity relative to temp. The relation is important because it controls the opening of the leaf stomata (to transpire / sweat) which intern controls the uptake of water from the root system. This is a way to manipulate environment to increase your feeding. "learn the rules before you can break the rules" applies to this.

A good guide to VPD, with the chart - https://pulsegrow.com/blogs/learn/vpd

Your temp will be determined by LST (Leaf Surface Temperature). Ideal leaf surface temp to maximize photosynthesis is reportedly around 82-83 degrees. Ambient air temp will usually be a couple degrees warmer if your plants are properly watered. If using LED lights, most people run the room at mid 80's. If using HPS, you will want a cooler room temp, usually around 73 degrees. The LST is effected differently due to the excessive IR (infrared light) from HID systems.
I made a VPD chart for keeno for gr420 well say adapted ....LOL ......................they all look the same ish so id brighten my one up

I like idea of mimicking onset of Winter, cooler temps and maybe a an hour less lighting, maybe it pushes plant into overdrive to force out more rezin and finish plant up nicely. No science their but just more shit in my head and i dont do it, i just like idea of it. 8-)

That's the thing tho dude. Sometimes science can be overwhelming and can do more bad than good if you don't understand and truly know how to read your plants. I'm still a novice with only a couple of grows under the belt which have been crap. This time in soil I seemed to have reached a decent ish grown with a couple of deficiencies which were probabaly down to temps, underwatering etc. But I now know how to read them a bit better and understand the process in soil rather than my previous grows in NFT.
