Getting rid of /controlling rust fungus

Post by GreenDabz »

I recently suffered with RUST FUNGUS which has become the bane of my life for my past 3 grows.

No matter how intensively I clean everything top to bottom, I mean everything gets doused with bleach then nuked with hydrogen peroxide, those basterd spores still manage to get a foothold and establish themselves.
I've tried various old wife's tale methods, I.E bicarbonate soda, garlic infused solutions, vinegar
All to no avail.

I can't stress how much of a S.O.A.B rust fungus is but trust me , you don't ever want to encounter it.

Any one have any suggestions, tried and tested methods??

Hi mate
How sure are you that it's rust fungus and not a calmag deficiency. Nutrient burn is also a possible culprit.

Have you tried bacillus subtilus? It's good for treating and actively protects against these types of fungus.

I wish I could say it was a calcium defiancy but unfortunately it's definitely rust fungus.
I've looked at the spores under magnifying glass.
Also before I even knew what rust was, I was checking my plants and came across a red/orangey coloured blob on the stem.
Which I stupidly thought was a drop of my blood as I had cut my finger the previous day (with the purple leds I failed to see the correct colour- which was orange) I then proceeded to wipe it/smudge it off thinking the iron in my blood would only benefit the plants.hahaha! little did I know it was a rust pustule, which is one of the 7 stages of the rust spore lifecycle. And around 5 days later all hell broke loose

If cleaning is not working then you are obviously not eradicating it where it is coming in.

Have you ever thought that this could be coming in on you? What do you do for a living? This may bring in spores. Also in your local area. I found out one rose plant we had, homed every single pest you could think of. Now I have that under control I have less pests in and outdoors.

I keep getting something like a Tobacco Mosiac Virus on almost every single grow. It always takes the weakest out of the two plants I always have growing in there. I now use gloves (if i remember) and also take a shower before touching anything in the grow room or garden so I don't introduce anything from the field we go to, out in the wilderness there are many pests and parasites. Also I work with grime and oil sometimes so bacteria, good and bad could be introduced.

If one thing isn't working don't be afraid to try another avenue.

Tell us about:
  • The environment mentioned by chad there👆
  • Medium
  • daily routines in the garden
  • Watering regime
  • Feeding regime
Look at it scientifically. What input do you give?

Ok thats a blight your talking about right ? They can be black spots also .

Can you post a pic just to make sure ?

Theres an organic concoction called Bordeaux Mixture .

Neem oil also is a natural fungicide . but we need to make sure its not simply a Calcium or Magnesium or another deficiency of sorts
