 the one in the photo is about 6-7 months I think. I've kept them for much longer though. The pot was 11ltr. As for age of the host plant, I find it doesn't really matter unless you're flowering the cuttings. Taking a cutting from a young plant grows at the same speed as a cutting from an older plant.

The older the plant gets, the more preflower it tends to shoot out before the thing roots. The plant seems to get to an age where its ready to flower, but you're forcing it to veg.

If I strip a seedling for cuttings too early and I'm planning on flowering them then it does make a difference. They tend to stretch a little more and take longer to switch over to flower. If the mother is over two months old, they seem to transition a little smoother.

Ive kept mother's for years without problem. Most of the time it's only because I have to move or some other life drama that fucks me over and I have to kill em or give them away. That and I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that all of the new varieties are shit and not worth keeping :)

I've also kept mother's in coco and it works fine. It's just a little aggressive and you have to clip them back if you're not stripping them regularly. You can really slow them down to a snails pace with soil. My other concern with coco would be that it holds onto cations. In theory, it should reach an equilibrium if you have enough run-off etc, but build-up would also be a concern for me. In soil is just easier. Bit of alga grow once a week and keep the lights low. When you're ready for cuttings, whack the light up a little and feed her.

I think my small pots were about 1/2 ltr low ec and as Duke says just keep trimming them to keep them short . Also as seymore says old or young as long as they roots you can clone them

I'm pondering if I could keep one as a desk plant in my office with lamp above it...?
Stick one of them colour changing LED philips bulbs in there :rolf:

I say "my office" but every fucker lands in there in the evening to annoy me while I;m watching my cartoons.

I use an ISH100 set on its lowest setting which is about 8 watts. I used to keep them in soil but found they do fine in coco in 3" pots - can't be bothered buying and storing two different mediums. I've kept some of these going since mid-March and they look OK, no yellowing leaves. I keep them short. The bigger ones were much taller - I trimmed them today.

...forgot to say, I don't tend to use mothers specifically for clones only. I select the keepers and those become the main plants in my big tent, then take cuttings from those just before 12/12. But, I am strain hunting so I need to keep rotating my muvvas. My method may not be best for keeping them much longer than a year but it might work fine, just haven't tested keeping them longer than about 8 months
