California’s newly elected governor Gavin Newsom stood in the chamber of the state legislature in Sacramento and explained his new orders for the state’s national guard. Instead of guarding the Mexican border from illegal crossings, one third of them would be redeployed to pursue illegal cannabis farmers – many of which, Newsom said, were “run by cartels” and were exacerbating California’s worsening wildfire problem.
