Mycelium CO2 bags - anyone used them

Post by seymore_budz »

Hey GR420,

I'm looking for a cheap hack to bring a little CO2 into my very tiny veg tent so I can deal with this heatwave going on in the UK at the moment.

I've seen these about for a while and from several manufacturers but they always get a bad rep? This tent has no extraction and relies on passive air exchange powered by an ancient oscillating fan. Do you think I could hit anywhere near 1200PPM if the tent was closed?

If you search for "smart c02" on that auction site, these might work in your space.

I used them in my 60 x 60 x 150 tent and you can tell the definitely produce co2.

Not sure if there's any benefit as I've nothing to compare it to but they were cheap so I figured why not.

Awesome, thanks all!

I've ordered some ebay cheapo ones. I'm guessing one bag of fungi is as good as the next :)

I'll keep you all posted!

I remember someone talking about this recently might have been on a YouTube talk and the guy had measured co2 inside and it was significantly higher than outside its to do with breathing and I suspect cooking higher it a good bit as well if using gas cooker, it was my my understanding that the higher co2 was to do with letting the plant utilise more light as opposed to dealing with heat, someone more knowledgable might be able to confirm this or not.

This is very true! I've run the expensive analysis equipment before outside of the hobby environment and you could walk into the grow area after and watch the PPM climb up to sometimes as high as 900ppm

As is the cooker :) burning gas releases co2. Have you ever noticed that the plants inside places like Chinese takeaway restaurants always look massive? That's normally due to the elevated levels of co2 coming from the kitchen.

It's a bit of a trinity thing. If you push excess heat the plant can absorb more co2 and nutes but you have to carefully do that and tends only to be commercially by some people from what I have read and listened to. Although I may have totally misunderstood lol.

So my theory was , and this is purely my thinking , if my heat creeps up then by having more co2 in my tent perhaps I can protect myself slightly, but because I don't know the ppm of the co2 it is purely conjecture
Yes spot on HMR, plants should be able to deal with the heat a bit better if the co2 levels are elevated to around 1200ppm. They should be able to make better use of the light and nutrients too. As you said though, it seems to be a fine line between success and failure. There was a study published in 2019 that suggested elevated heat can and will in fact reduce co2 uptake. My feeling is you may get around 2-4C more tolerance so your plants will sit happily at 30C with co2 around 1200ppm if everything else is in order but as you go up to around 33C+ you will still see negative effects. Again, as you mentioned HMR, this is all guess work based on what I've seen.

Definitely something in that I’ve got a chilli plant in my flat and it’s twice as big as the ones in my outside grow house I suspect it had to do with co2
