Big RDWC, GH trio, changing ratios without dumping the nutes.
Just as the title says, I have a big RDWC system and use GH nutes, filling this system takes nearly 48hrs with my slow RO system, I have started them off on the 1-1-1 ratio as on the GH bottle and the plants are picking up nicely. I would soon like to move to the 3-2-1 veg ratio and I'm thinking of just adding back that ratio as the EC drops instead of trying to empty and wasting all those nutes etc! anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Welcome to the growroom.
I can't help you as I grow in soil and no need to check EC.
Someone else will come and help you on that matter.

Hey man I'll be using the gh trio in my rdwc soon, so I'll be following your progress closely. As for not dumping the rez weekly, or at least bi-weekly, I wouldn't recommend it.noob12345 wrote:Just as the title says, I have a big RDWC system and use GH nutes, filling this system takes nearly 48hrs with my slow RO system, I have started them off on the 1-1-1 ratio as on the GH bottle and the plants are picking up nicely. I went a month and only added back nutes/water to maintain ec, but ended up getting lockout
I ended up buying a huge storage tote to hold my RO water, that way I can fill a couple days in advance and change the rez weekly

I used to use a timer and an external water butt. I timed it for say... 1830 so at 1845 I would go to the groom and adjust in the external waterbutt, then open the valve at the bottom to refill the DWC.
You NEED to do weekly res changes imho in DWC or risk pythium.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! I have been into DWC for a while, I did several grows in single res until I got bored of dumping all the time, ive done a couple of grows with current system but changing the water in like a 400l system with a small RO filter takes forever and I fucked the root zone over last time because I let them dry out. (I filled another container to pump straight in but it wasn't enough!), they took ages to recover from that but I still got something around 0.5gpw. I can't seem to add photos!?

400l? big ass setup - do you need that much water or are you finding a lot is left weekly? Try and gauge so you run almost dry after a week - thats what I aim to do tbh.

right! try now mate. Should work. I maxed out at 250odd in DWC recirc but that was a large grow.

maybe not 400l but it cant be far off to get the levels up to the bottom of the net pots, this system is completely DIY, I even made the bulk head fittings myself from pvc rodding eye fittings!
