Some of the things we do in our grows are done on a leap of faith. I've been adding microbes to my grows since I started growing 5 years ago. I have only used DWC and Hempy (soiless) and have always wondered how much benefit I am getting from my "bugs in a jug". According to Bruce Bugbee, not much, if any. After watching this video I've decided to give my collection of microbes to one of my soil growing friends.
Dr. Bugbee has some of the best research on our beloved plant anywhere. Here is his take on microbes in a soiless system:

Re: Microbes in a soiless grow system
Things like this and learning about living soil is why I stopped adding microbs or mycelium, get your soil right you don't need to add anything, and I am not talking adding thinks like bat guano, blood meal, etc. Air, and soil from the garden has all microbs and mycelium the plants can use.
My soil I make is mostly, loam soil, coco core, compost and perlite. That's it. I might add some worm castings, or even worms to my pots. I grow 12/12 in one letter pots and don't do anything but water.
