Anyone in the UK that's made their own will?
I know places like Macmillan etc. offer free will writing services, but they often want a cut or donation. I don't have a lot of money and what I do have I want to go to the wife.
I wondered if anyone here has done their own will or give me some pointers.
Thank you.

Lots of charities offering the free service. I wouldn't trust em. Apparently they can be insensitive come pay day.The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 5:38 pmI know places like Macmillan etc. offer free will writing services, but they often want a cut or donation. If it's just you and the wife to worry about you need a mirror will. About a £150 with a decent solicitor.
I was looking at the free ones but was put off by aggressively the charities chase the money.

Same here, mate. There has to be a catch with these free services.Treetrunk wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 5:55 pmLots of charities offering the free service. I wouldn't trust em. I've not heard of a mirror will. I will have to look into that. Thank you.

It gets expensive when you start adding other people and dividing estates. The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 6:02 pmSame here, mate. Re: Anyone in the UK that's made their own will?
I've had a quick look at mirror wills, and won't be needing one. She has years left to live. We're not married although I call her my wife. I just want to make sure she has everything once I am gone. I'm trying to save money because my mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia. That's going to cost around £164 for each of them. Hence I am trying to save a bit on doing a will, but there are too many sharks out there.Treetrunk wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 6:20 pmIt gets expensive when you start adding other people and dividing estates. The Aspie Toker wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 6:02 pmSame here, mate. There are no kids involved and we rent. I want her to have my two pensions and any money I have as well as any goods like the PC etc.

Re: Anyone in the UK that's made their own will?
My mum bought a simple will form you can get them online I think post office might sell them, she signed it and had 2x witnesses, it went through probate no problems, if your married and dont leave a will then the wife gets it anyway I think as she will be your next of kin. Just keep it safe and maybe have a couple of copies of it, if it’s a simple will no solicitor is needed.

Re: Anyone in the UK that's made their own will?
Surely if you are married your wife is your next of kin by default anyway ?
I know a will makes things much more cut and dry when the inevitable happens like but I’m sure she would get it all anyway

We are not married. I did say earlier in the thread that we are not married but I call her my wife. If we were, then I wouldn't have to worry about a will as she'd get everything as you've already said.
I'll look into the Post Office thing. I trust them more than solicitors.
