Rising Energy Cost
Hello fellow tokers. I believe we are all facing the same issue here. My new bill arrived and it's +200£ on top monhtly. I've been paying 180£ a month for both gas and electricity which was always leaving me in credit.
But as of next month I'll be paying 376£. That's simply unaccaptable. I've tried to be in touch with eON but coudn't get them on the phone. I've tried to reduce my monthly payment via the online thingy, but again - no luck.
I am on the edge of cancelling my direct debit and letting them find a way to get in touch with me.
What do you guys think of the situation and how are you planning to deal with the situation?

Re: Rising Energy Cost
its heavy isnt it. I was getting similar quotes, i think if i get a fixed deal now its like 450 a month , firstly youre better off going on a variable rate at the moment, dont fix any deals. Ontop of that iv bought solar panels, i know its not much help as its down to finances to afford it in the first place. cancel your dd and just carry on paying them the £190 and tell them you dont have it, its not secured against your home so fk em

Re: Rising Energy Cost
Well that`s more than max 54% through board energy increase, well its more than doubled in price so defo need to get onto them @Bulls and push your point. Martin Lewis was recently on about this. Scroggalot is right you really dont want to be getting into a fixed deal atmo saw this on M.S.E too .

So anyone who uses the older gas card or electric tokens that you pay as you go and reload the key or card from shops, well you need to be loading them up as much as you can before 1st April and all the energy in your meter is bought at pre 54% energy hike. Courtesy of Money Saving Expert.

Re: Rising Energy Cost
Cant see it getting any better either. Im on a prepay meter, gone from 15.6pkwh to 28pkwh and im being told its due to go up even more. Now might be a good time to get into solar. At the moment you can still buy a 100w panel for around £70 and less if you buy in bulk. If imports from china stop being cheap then there goes that opportunity.
I think we all have to sit back and reassess what we use and how we use it.

Re: Rising Energy Cost
Doing the maths, investing into solar system will pay off itself within 7 years ( and that's just the initial investment ) so I'd give that a miss.
Shortly after spending some time listening to music on hold, I've dedided to ditch the idea and just send them an email. Surprisingly, they got back to me...within 4 minutes. They are to keep my direct debit at 180 but told to keep an eye on my account as I'd most likely go into debt. That's not really worrying me, when the time comes I'd spread the cost of the debt to be repaid in 100 years or just ask them to take it back from the government as they are the ones with the misrable diplomatic skills.

Re: Rising Energy Cost
We pay quarterly. The wife saves up the money (I sometimes add to it) and when the bill is due, I go to the PO and pay it. I'd never do DD with a bill that constantly changes.Bulls wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 1:07 pmHello fellow tokers. I believe we are all facing the same issue here. If I were you, mate, I'd cancel the DD and pay the bill in cash when it arrives.

Re: Rising Energy Cost
Solar panels are only good if you have a south facing roof. Even then they are not that productive.RB1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 2:05 pmCant see it getting any better either. Re: Rising Energy Cost
I am thinking of adding some numbers when I take a meter reading. Not too much, but it will save a bit of money.

Re: Rising Energy Cost
We've been paying a green levy on our energy bills for years.
Supposed to be invested in renewables.
So where is all this green energy when you need it? Nowhere to be seen
All this carbon neutral bollocks has put us in a weak bargaining position.
We've just opened up 3 old fireplaces at ours. Couple of old tyres will burn for age's.
