Another one from the blog:

I discovered this while reading and watching on the Canna website. They have a full range of nutrients for use. I was looking at the PK 13/14 and which to use. Ironically not being an organic input I know, but for indoor growing I will never see the problem with this when the medium and any runoff waters have been disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.
I compost my old coco and use soil. Even the heavily salted ones. After all, over time worms, microbes and insects will still process it over time. It just takes a little longer.
So what is Osmotic Pressure?
Osmotic pressure, scientifically means the minimum pressure applied to a solution to prevent it from passing through a semipermeable membrane.
Doesn’t sound like much though ey….? If you are not scientifically minded in any way these things can be mind boggling. There are a few explanations but how I see it is a plant needs to take in water, but when we suck through a straw, we are using the energy, our lungs help take in air and we sucks through causing a difference in pressure and we take a nice drink. When a plant needs water it needs to change the pressure around its root’s. Osmotic pressure is how a plant drinks and takes in nutrients.
There are also semi permeable membranes within the plant that act as pathways to let certain nutrients in and not others.
So thanks to osmotic pressure we can all grow wonderful plants to enjoy.
Thanks for reading,

Re: Osmotic Pressure
I read something the other day you might find interesting about why flushing your plants is a myth because of osmotic pressure. I think that's what it was anyway. Lemme see if I can find it you.
Also... Had a good read of your blog the other day too. It's pretty good man.
