Peroxide vs Microbiology
Eyup Growers :)
So I was watching some YouTube while working and came across a video about root colonising bacteria and how they protect against root rot. One in particular that came up a few times was bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens can be found in a few products like Hydroguard and people swear by those products.
I've been down the whole friendly bacteria route before when running an aeroponics system and I did have fairly decent results, I also lost a plant down to root rot. But the products I was using didn't contain bacillus amyloliquefaciens.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacillu ... quefaciens
ATM I'm running silver peroxide and Hygrozyme but I really don't like using peroxide as I feel like killing everything is also not ideal. Not only that, I'd like to run an enzyme that doesn't cost £40 per ltr and requires you to add 2.5ml per litre. I get through about 100ltr of water every two weeks in top-ups as well as an additional 100ltr when cycling the tank. I need a second job to pay for all that hygrozyme I could buy an LED with the money I would have to spend running Hygrozyme full cycle.
So, my question is does anyone have any experience with any products that contain bacillus amyloliquefaciens like Hydroguard? If so, what we're your experiences?

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
oh, i also have used 3% H2O2 on some of my mushroom grow bags as it seems to not kill mycelium but does kill mold and bacteria

I voted bacteria solely because its easy to culture yourself at a higher concentration and therefore cheep, like the budgie. Check you're pms @seymore_budz

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
Yup that's very similar to what I'm using currently but silver peroxide. The silver keeps it in solution for longer. I think I'll try the bacteria next te and see wagwan. The liquid oxygen ain't what it used to be either. They had to keep dropping the concentration as the government was worried about people making bombs from the stuffCaptain Beefheart wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 10:15 pmwhen i ran water .... I think I'm going to grab some bacteria and move from the Silver Peroxide as the beanies should provide some additional benefits and compliment my existing regime.

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
I use h202 when or if i got root rot just cus its easy to use and does sort jobby rapidly. I`ve recently used 12% h202 (2grows back) as a booster through out bloom and it helped produce my biggest yield to date in my small space running. I was growing double strawberry diesel jones which is a big yielder anyhow. I`m gonna run the strain again soon enough just to satisfy my curiosity as to if its any good as a flower booster.

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
I think this one is on the expensive side and may or may not include your specific bacteria you were after (not much help I know), but I have used this in soil when I overfed and it did wonders very quickly, I've used it in my humidifer to stop algae and it's supposed to sort out root rot too.

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
That's enzymes mate not bacteri although the enzymes are stabilised by the use of bacteria in most enzymes. That product sounds exactly the same as Cannazym. The reason you can't use those enzymes in hydro with any peroxide products is the peroxide will kill off any supporting bacteria and the enzymes won't last long. That's why hygrozyme is helpful as it's not backed by bacteria so the enzymes will go to work in peroxide. Saying that, a lot I read suggests that hygrozyme is much slower to break down dead roots than other products. Probably a compromise to keep it stable but who knows. I'm not knowledgeable in all the enzymes and how they all work but I do know that there's only a handful that break down root material. It's all magical to me that Hygrozyme managed to produce a enzyme additive that doesn't rely on bacteria lol.Tictok wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 7:40 pmI think this one is on the expensive side and may or may not include your specific bacteria you were after (not much help I know), but I have used this in soil when I overfed and it did wonders very quickly, I've used it in my humidifer to stop algae and it's supposed to sort out root rot too.

I've dropped out the peroxide and swapped for TNC BactorrS13. We will see how things go. It's a powder but when diluted it turns the water super dark. Smells like seaweed so probably is Hopefully everything won't die from root rot :)

Re: Peroxide vs Microbiology
Ah, nice one Seymore, I didn't realise the difference as I've never used it for hydro. Thanks for the clarification.seymore_budz wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 10:58 amThat's enzymes mate not bacteri although the enzymes are stabilised by the use of bacteria in most enzymes.
