So do ec fans go in those big silencer tube things as well or are they silent on their own ? I was looking at these Mammoth ec fans in picture below, why i ask cus theirs no way i could fix that in my room with cf.

I’m no expert but from what I’ve seen an ec and an ac fan from the same manufacturer look identical, it’s just down to the internal components that make ec fans more efficient.

The can fan I bought is the same, the ec and ac versions look identical.
The difference is the can fans are basically a quiet fan put inside a silenced tube, that whole canister in the picture is lined with foam to deaden the noise, wish I took some photos before I fitted it.

Yeah know what your saying about mounting it in the room, there’s no room at all for that in my room. Can you not fit it in the loft and run some ducting down?

Drugs and Alcohol are never the answer! Unless the question was “what am I doing tonight”.

Yes i have a 6inch silencer looks similar in loft somewhere, its lined with little points cone shaped foam. Never used it, but tis what you stick on end of a fan which is noisy part, tbh its not actual fan, but its bloody air blasting out that makes loudest noise, hence why i mention long duct runs with that jazzy lined ducting they sell nowadays, longer the better/quieter.

Fuck knows about ec and ac fans and which to buy or does it fit in an acoustic silencer, man im clueless, fan i have in atmo is German made hybrid fan which is twin speed running of a variac, so tis well silent tbf but i like total silence or close as we can get it hey..

You can get alot of the branded ec fans silenced or unsilenced. Having got both i wouldn't pay the extra for another silenced one as its pretty damn quiet anyway and humless upon dimming, if needed I'd just make a box. Them ac infinity ec fans are pretty good and they are bringing out new bits fairly regular, couple their ec fan to a controller 69 wifi along with the outlet controller thing they now have and its basically a gas enviro from what i can see, add in the cloudray when it comes out and it'd make a pretty sweet set up if you like gadgets and shit

I like the ac infinity fan our lad loaned me. It's got the controller with it.
When I have to buy I'll just go for the basic dimmer switch one.
I shy away from gadgets. Just one more thing to go wrong. Proud to be a Luddite

I love gadgets i do but i aint gonna lie about the fact that they haven't helped me grow any better weed, not a jot. The only thing the ec fans helped me do is save on leccy

I think ec fans mainly get rid of that low speed whine/hum from the electrics.
think of a dimmer on a wall, all that does is reduce the amount of power to the light and causes it to dim. That’s how ac fans work and the reason they make the slow speed noises, my lights buzz when I dim them to the lowest setting.
Ec fans work by pulsing the electric, it’s called pulse width modulation or pwm, from what I gather they have two circuits in an ec fan, one low speed which uses pwm and stops the slow speed noises, then for faster speeds it switches to a different circuit with higher output, possibly ac I’m not sure.
I’d say if your variac is doing a good enough job of reducing slow speed fan noise and it’s just the noise of air you need to get rid of then an ec fan might not make a difference for you, you need to work on silencing other things.
Look at those inline carbon filters we was talking about earlier In the thread, I reckon if I put one of them in the loft before the fan then run some ducting into the tent, then a nice big chunk of foam carved down to the shape and size of a carbon filter to fit in the end of the duct. I reckon that’ll be dead silent, the foam will act as a dust filter too.

Don't forget when you dim an ac fan it'll still use the same amount of leccy, when you dim an ec fan it'll use less leccy

I didn’t know that. I just assumed it would use less running on a slower speed

Yes your right i mean theirs zero humming or anything at all that can be heard from fan, its really a very low noise and is air blasting into loft and tbh no fucker goes in loft so fuck talking myself into buying new when theirs no point its just not me in first place doing that. EC fan must have had me captivated lol

Do you use acoustic ducting? That should get rid of most of the air noises, the only noise mine makes now is from the carbon filter, I’m wondering if wrapping some foam around it will help
