I think the line for making your self dark is maybe altered by your motives, Maybe? Being white I mean I don’t know it makes people of colour feel, but I have to assume that a person that wants to look tanned because they feel better then when they are pale should be ok even if they get pretty dark. I think the issue would come from doing it to try and pretend to be black, make fun of it or stuff like that.
And by the two wrongs thing I mean that yeah it sucks we support that system, but not using the tools we have to fight for a better world wouldn’t make what’s happening at those factories any better right?
By the sound of it, you're not from the UK. I am guessing you've never heard of darkie day (Mummer's day) That is one example where it has nothing to do with black people/slavery or anything else along those lines.

Let's get back to the other point where you have people who are complaining about slavery. Yet have no issues using a phone that was made with slave labour. Do they not see the irony in that?
No lol Niagara Falls, Canada and no I don’t think I’ve heard of that, but possibly a similar tradition in Germany or Holland.
And that’s not what I said, most people that understand where that stuff comes from would clearly like to see that change. But I think that’s a different issue then people being killed in the streets of developed nations by people that are paid and in trusted to protect everyone. I am totally down with paying more for my phone to increase the quality of life of people in the third and second world. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to use the tools I have, cell phone included to try and make change here and now
Quite possible that they have it in Germany etc. It is an old pagan festival.

It's not really any different. Chinese people are committing suicide because of the work conditions. Having to sleep in the same room where they work at times.

It would be no different if I was back in 1850 and saying I don't mind paying more for my cotton...
I don't recall people committing suicide seeing that as an increase in the quality of life. Or having to use toxic chemicals so the western world can take selfies of their stupid pouts.

If you want to save the world and put a stop to slavery, then get rid of your mobile phones. That will be a start.

Yeah in Holland and Germany, wear old style dress and paint their faces black and lips red with shoe polish... I would be pissed off if I was a Person of colour, but once again I can only speak as a white guy

I’m not sure what you mean by the third paragraph. What I’m saying is we should be paying more for our shit to try and increase quality of life there. How will everyone getting ride of phones help? 1. The world would become smaller again and the injustices that are everywhere would move back into the dark 2. That would take away the small amount of money that the workers do have. It’s fucking horrible that Foxcon decided it was cheaper to put suicide nets up then to pay workers a better wage, but if the money stops flowing I don’t think that will actually help

You said about you don't mind paying more for your (slavery made) mobile phone if it increases the quality of life of people. (which is doesn't)

Just change mobile phone for cotton and you have the same argument.

It would be no different if I was back in 1850 and saying I don't mind paying more for my cotton if it increases the quality of life of people. (which is didn't)

Who knows, in a 100 years time people maybe pulling down phone masts instead of statues because phone masts will be linked to (modern day) slavery.

It's not really any different to what happened in the past. It's just a different race with a different product.
Nike trainers is another slave laboured product.

I feel like making comparisons makes sense but there is clearly differences between old school slavery and the modern day “wage slavery” your talking about.

You can’t say paying more wouldn’t increase quality of life because it hasn’t been done. Obviously it would need to be backed with legislation and maybe trade laws that try and insure that the increase goes to the workers. Maybe something like a electronic goods tax that it linked to a basic income for certain sector workers? I don’t know what you would have to do to make it work (or if it would successfully) because I’m not a politician or some shit

Anyways we’re getting away from the point that was that protesters for civil rights and against police brutality aren’t doing anything wrong by using cell phones to record further injustices. They have a moral obligation to use what they have to try and make the world a better place. Hopefully one day a cell phone video will turn the world onto how many modern day slaves and wage slaves are still in the world. But for now trying to get the cops to stop murdering people is the goal. Ignoring these issues isn’t gonna change anything for peasants in China, but it would keep life hard for people here.

It's way more than just “wage slavery” and you know it, or decide to deny it.
Either way, we're going around in circles and it's taking my time away from other jobs on the site.
You have your ideas, I have mine. Clearly they differ.
