True story dude. We're on lpg at home and the last two winters have cost me about £200 to heat the house for the five coldish months. This year with electric shooting up I'll be installing a wood burner with a back boiler for heat and hot water, and solar with battery storage that will charge up at night when the rates are lower. It's no joke how everything is getting more expensive now. Was looking at electric vans until the rates went up... Now I'll stick with my diesel.
I paid a deposit on a 4kw solar system today. Should cover half my electric bill
What's the cost mate? I was looking at wind power but they are big money.
We live on the coast and it would make sense. For a 10k system which is enough to power a house apparently. The cost would be £30k plus you need planning permission.
Just thinking about it. If it's reliable it could be a bargain.
Our DD is going up to a £1000 a month for gas and leccy.

How much is that system going to cost dude?

Will it save you much per year?
Marcus if you get a battery storage system that can charge off the mains they are programmed to draw mains power on the night time rate and use that during the day time. So it should halve any potential bill. If you fit solar panels it may save you more in summer. It'll take a few years to recoup your investment. But, I'd happily do this rather than hand my hard earned over to those parasites running the power networks. Self sufficient has got to be the way forward for all of us long term.

I've just been quoted 5k for a new oil combi boiler install :strangling: That's without the new rads that we need too, so add another 2k. :strangling: :strangling:

We're thinking about putting that kind of money into fitting wet underfloor heating upstairs a thermal store and solar water, with a wood or pellet boiler for winter. PV seemed more expensive so am wondering that cost.

I don;t want to be held to ransom by war mongers and capitalists for the rest of my life just to keep warm.

:viking:

I'd love to be self sufficient.

I just paid 4.99 us dollars per gallon of diesel up here in cold as fuck US.

Our natura gas went up 13% too for home use. We spend on average nearly $300/month on natural gass and only $40/month on leccy.

Gasoline in upstate NY is $4.30 - $4.56/gal.... all within 2 miles of each other.
"Normal" is not a goal. It is a level to be surpassed on the way to "memorable". :Stoned:
:puff puff: (UNLESS of course, the goal is NORML)

I looked at oil but figure currently anything requiring good prices from the middle East is a no go. Wood is definitely the way forward. Solid idea on the wet underfloor heating.

Likewise on PV it is costly but I've a pal says he hasn't paid for hot water six months of the year since fitting it.

System is £6250 Inc vat.

Will generate 4000kw a year. I use around 6500kw a year according to my bill . So at my current tariff before the price rise hits us it will save me £1200 a year. When rises come in April about £2160 a year saving and then more again in October when the cap increases again. Pay for itself in 3 years
