When I started it was all just "Weed". Pretty much brick weed from Mexico. But now and then we were able to score Thai Stick. That was a horse of a different color. :puff puff:

Greetings all,

I'm a bit of a weed history nerd and love hearing about the different legendary strains from the past. Anyways I thought I would start a post to hear everyone's stories...if your interested in sharing. So what's the legendary local strain from your spot

Here's one from my neck of the woods. The "Te Puke Thunder". I had always been told it was brought over from Thailand in the 70s, grown in the Coromandel hills and had become a heirloom adjusted to NZ climate...but who knows, I reckon it was probably just a sweet name that stuck. Here's a helpful little video about a local dude looking for it. To be honest I reckon its long gone, but the doco is fun, a bit of kiwi weed culture

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRrR385 ... hannel=ATP
Used to watch a Kiwi show called Back of the Y. Nut jobs  They were always mentioning Te Puke Thunder.
Has anyone managed to track any down yet?
I'm going to dig out the BOTY and Randy Campbell DVDs.
Haha yeah bro I remember Back of the Y well, yup they basically spent all the money they made on drugs and booze over a couple year period. A couple of the guys are still in Kiwi media. Randy Campbell was in the paper last year, he chased down thieves that robbed his guitar and ended up on the roof of the thieves car when it crashed into the cops...crazy but true https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/ ... police-car

Nah man Te Puke thunder was never found. It was like Maui Wowie, as more of a famous name. It existed in the 80s, and the legend remained longer after. To be honest, the main local legends around in the 90s was the Silver Pearl being grown by gangs in the 90s. I also remember the old super skunk. It was light green, like ninja turtle green, orange hairs, powerful stone for the time

The other big thig was a cut of AK47, that was the rage from 2000 to 2010. That was being grown out by the NORML crew, and spread far and wide.

Randy was obviously in the zone that night
Our favourites back in the day were always hash. Not much flower about then and I didn't grow.
Squidgy black, red seal and gold seal.
That YouTube video made me laugh. Some right characters.
Love to have a smoke and a beer with them
