Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
I've been lurking for a while :) Didn't want to piss on your cornflakes and all that Neautalise is just ascorbic acid. Any source of vitamin C would do the same. I think humic acid will have the same affect and Jeff Lowenfel suggested a hand full of dirt will also do the trick. They had me at first too until I looked a bit closer.

Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
Yeah this is one reason I got these strips. I was listening to a groomstead podcast and eagle gardens I think, was on about using them. So this triggered a thought about testing this theory.seymore_budz wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 9:31 amI've been lurking for a while :) Didn't want to piss on your cornflakes and all that Neautalise is just ascorbic acid. I should have made it more scientific from the start.
I will do more tests later tonight when I will be watering again.
I do use Humic and Fulvic when watering now, so maybe I will test that theory too, so thanks for that. At least if there is something more for proof here people can make more sense of it and be more efficient with watering schedules. I probably read that from Jeff but it's stuck in a corner somwhere in my brain
Nice one @seymore_budz

Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
Right for further proof. I have tested my normal watering can, plain water, straight out of the tap:
Then I added my normal 3 drops off the neutralise:
Now, after adding the Apple Cide Videgar:
PLEASE READ:
I have been doing a little research today. As I had to order more of the A C Vinegar.
I realised I ordered the wrong one, although I think it should be able to be fixed. Apple Cider Vinegar can contain something called "The Mother" a little like that 70 year old yeast people use for bread I suspect. It is just a bunch of proteins and micro organisms as far as I am aware of. This mother of earth contains acetic acid. Now this from what I have read is how auxins are formed?
In any case it may be this that benefits eradicating all chlorides?
Also any extra microrganisms and bateria, especially proteins is only going to be good for the soil, right?
So I'm going to ditch the Neutralise, sorry Eco Thrive! Just use my aspalls with the mother!

Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
hey rik , chlorine like other micros (bo,mb,zn,fe etc etc )nutrients are essential to plants . in micro doses its beneficial
Just let your water sit and throw a pumpand airstone and in 12hrs the chlorine is gone .

Yeah, the 17 (or think it's more from what I've read) elemnents for plant growthTrex wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 9:12 pmhey rik , chlorine like other micros (bo,mb,zn,fe etc etc )nutrients are essential to plants . in micro doses its beneficial

But only needed in trace amounts and if you're trying to rely on the microbiome to feed your plants your want to do as much as you can to keep them there.
Also if you look at the different Chlorides, not chlorine, that the water boards use here in the UK, you will see how they have been using these trichlorides. They use them for a reason, to kill bacteria. This type which is so high in the water around here is which is what I don't want, certainly not in my living soil thanks

Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
Yeah I remember brushing over this with you before. Nematodes. Completely harmless. Apparently, on your salad.
I ordered a natural unpasturised without mother. But I'll use the last bit of the bottle to culture into the next
Hopefully

Place an apple into a glass container large enough to hold one part water to one part apple cider and leave the experiment for about a month. Make sure to put a lid on the glass container so that no other bugs or critters fall victim to your yummy science experiment.
You can put a small hole in the lid if you wish. You can use tap water for this experiment; however, you should let it stand for a few days to let the chlorine evaporate from it. The apple will provide some extra nourishment.
All you need now is a microscope and a few friends to witness this unbelievable event, as hundreds of little eel-like nematodes swim through your very own home-made vinegar, believe it or not!

Re: Is Neutralise a snake oil?
Aspie, you may be onto something. Apart from a just ordered 5L of it haha. I'll need a lot as I have a 55L live soil pot to keep watered.
That's well interesting though. I'll be making LAB EM1A and bokashi soon, so this could be a big possibility one day as I can harvest apples from variopus places for free :o)
